Apparently now my power figures are in question as is the dyno I used. This guy is a prize willy. I was so glad that day Glen shot him down in flames.

god he really doesn\'t agree does he !
you do tend to get a lot of doubters on internet forums but I will give Bill the credit of knowing what he is talking about even if he is more than a little blunt in the way he says it.
Pah don\'t listen to him man, I\'m also an engineer, but know enough now that theory is all well and good, but real life is where it counts, 123mph trap speed definitely shows your cars potential :bandit
Good luck with getting off the line Brian and once you do you will get the stunning time you deserve:)
Paul
I personally don\'t hold much with dyno figures.
Just use them as a tool for tuning and as Paul said, prove it on the strip. We have seen quite a number of cars with excellent dyno figures recently not really producing the goods up the strip.
Bill is quite correct in what he is saying, try to listen even just a little, you never know, something is allways there to be learned.
there is a reason that the laws of Physics are called laws,in most things it is because they are fixed.
Regards
Carl;)

Carl you could get a job in the house of commons as a speaker anyday.
We can go into figures and strips another day. I suppose because Bill is a mad professor and he estimates my car produces about 450 fwhp that makes him correct because he\'s a nutty professor?
I\'ve driven enough cars myself to know whether my car has that much, or around that much horsepower which it certainly does.
I don\'t really care if someone believes I have 470rwhp at 1.2 bar
Point is it just had to be Bill to be the one to chime with as much
tact as a hungry wolf. He spends 90% of his time on the net not to provide usful info to help, but to disagree with everything thing practical and defend everything theoretical. I know you and him are mates Carl so your gonna defend him but he is pro Nerd in a class all by himself.
Isn\'t there a calculation from the terminal velocity that will give a reasonable idea of BHP?
ROLLING ROADS = BULLSH!T FIGURES!!!!
All these \'I got x amount on the rollers\' is CRAP. IMHO.
Rollers dont mean crap, they dont reflect that a car can be quick on the road when they cant get a proper reading from their rollers.
Fish
What about the dyno\'s that attach directly to the hubs, like what Pip/WGT use? I basically got stock figures for that, and i have pretty much stock car - so they seemed reasonable. Also, Pips the kind of guy that doesn\'t bullsh*t about things - so surely you can trust what he says?
See my comment above... \'ALL\' rollers are crap!

PS. Yes I have been down the pub. ;)

Or should it be "sits down, opens can of worms"
Paul ;)
Bagsy the handbag with the brick in it... *grin*
If you allow some margin of error in the figure from the rollers, Brians 460 - 480 hp car (cos presumably it could error up and down) is still a damned sight more powerful than my 315 - 330 hp car? So depending on the margin of error, it is a measure of the power of the car. The road/strip is more a measure of driver + engine + clutch + brakes + suspension + weather + alcohol content + health + tyres + comfort of seat + ....
The rolling road is a direct comparison of engines, the road is a direct comparison of EVERYTHING.

I\'ll have the footy sock + cue ball then :)
Blimey matey, that\'s a bit butch!!!
\'\'The rolling road is a direct comparison of engines, the road is a direct comparison of EVERYTHING.\'\'
Oh that is sooooo true, couldn\'t agree more!

More that an engine dyno is a direct comparison, than a set of rollers, hub or not.

Pink sock? Fishnets?
Rather than being in the movie now i think will join Max and share some of his Popcorn! That is if there is any left.

I like this thread very entertaining!!
I think rolling roads are just tuning tools, just got to make sure you go back to the same one after making changes to see it has improved things, you can only compare figures to other cars that have been dynoed on the same rolling road, I think none of us would dream of comparing figures gained from a Dyno Dynamics to a Dyno Jet.
But a terminal of 123mph is where its at! thats real power, Brian is only 7 mph off Geoffs terminal and 15 mph off Ross\'s terminal not bad for a privateer

Amen. If u dont accept the figures, dont ask for them - or take any notice of them! Use the equipment for tuning, not for dick-swinging :D The numbers at the end are just for fun :o

But Ross\'s car has only 420atw;)
Jason
420atw corrr Jay that car must be light!!!!!
what boost was that running on the rolling road?
Is Ross running at GT42?
More that a dyno is a good way of measuring the error in another dyno which was used to measure the error in another dyno which...
Hm. What\'s BSFC, and is what this RICE RACING chap is saying true? (You get more gain than pressure multiples alone suggest.)
If so, must be something to do with flow behaviour under different pressures...
That\'s the only explanation really, cos I find myself agreeing with both protagonists, which shouldn\'t be possible!
We have HP, the French have kW, the Germans have PS, and the Americans have... BS. :D
We should really have kW, as that is truly metric, but we still use mph, so what the hell!! :p
Worse, we talk about specific capacity in bhp per litre :rollin
Talk about getting metric and imperial measurements confused!
Next we\'ll be talking miles per km!!! :rollin (0.625 by the way! ;))

Hm. What\'s BSFC
brake specific fuel consumption
e.g fuel consumption in relation to power output at the brake (dyno)
measured in bhp/lbhr or I suppose w/ghs :p
