Title: Porting
Post by: Gerry M on June 01, 2005, 11:55:40 AM
HI all

Well after a disappointing BHP figure on the RR at RS2, rebuild looks like its on the cards, I\'m thinking on changing twins for a GT35/40 at same time as rebuild & was wondering what would be the best porting , if any to suit this turbo

cheers

Gerry

Any extra porting will help with a single turbo conversion. The heavier the port, to more lumpy the idle and the more fuel you will use.

What do you use the car for? Day to day or just weekend blats.

From what I heard, the rolling road was lacking on grip, meaning anything with bigger power was wheel spinning, and thus giving lower results.

I\'d get the figure double checked before resorting to anything drastic.  What figure did it give you and what mods have you got?

Garry,

As Chris mentions the RR was playing up so dont go spending on that figure.......if i thought my figure was anywhere near right id have shot the car...then the builder. ;)

Big underestimates was the order of the day (helps id only just got me motor dyno\'d 5 days before) poss wheel spin im reliably told.

get it checked again mate before spending..

I had heard the road was reading low, & i had changed back to RE-A ecu as was curious what power it was making should of been approx 340 @ fly, rollers said 229!! But it had been feeling down on power saying that put my apexi back in this morning & seems ok again!

229!

RE-A Filter, catback, trust intercooler & a RE-A redom B ECU car wasnt boosting right on way home, & had the coolant buzzer scream at me yesterday morning so rebuild looks on the cards been expecting it cars at 65K

Hi Gerry,
It is possible to do some really radical and effective porting that will not be detrimental to the cars idle or driveability and even if driven gently the fuel consumption.
As has been said, basically it means two advantages, you get better top end power at higher rpm,and also you get higher power for less boost.

Carl

I put my Fc on the rollers at rs2. because Jonyb\'s car had read low. mine got dyno\'d last thursday at 397.8 atw at 1.3 bar. I turned the boost down to 1.2 bar as the road only reads upto 450 rwhp. the first run they did gave me 320 fwhp. told the result from the other dyno and suggested they may have had wheel spin, so they did another run. This came out i think at 438fwhp. Nothing had changed except maybe my tyres had warmed up. Dunlop do1js they warm up nice and quick. This is why most dyno places will do three runs,Just to confirm the results they have seen and check to see if they are having problems.
