just installed rebuilt engine, started running in on base map on power fc with rev limit at 4000rpm, .5 bar of boost.
engine ran well for about 30 miles then no power, clouds of smoke and popping exauhst. stopped engine for 5 minutes then started up fine, drove the car home with the odd pop from exahust. started up next day with engine not wanting to rev (holding back). checked ignition timing on commander and no fluctuation in leading or trailing ignition timing (staying the same figures)
put new map sensor on from pips, and checked for air leaks. on tickover there is 2.69 volts at pressure sensor on commander, is this right????
running out of idea please help!!!!!
dunno much mate but hopefully someone knowledgable will turn up, out of interest what colour was smoke &/or any other issues with coolant etc?
Si
There are a few quick things to try, the first would be to reset the basemap via the etc bit on the commander and see if that sorts it. The 2nd thing to check is to make sure that the map sensor is set to normal on the commander as all other settings don\'t work properly and it is easy to accidently change it withoutrealising while browsing. and the third thing to check is the sensor check screen again on the commander, if any of the important voltages are highlighted then check to see if they are within spec, namely tps voltages as the wax pellet once warm can bring them out of spec.
Good luck with sorting it,
Paul
According to the workshop manual it should read between
1.3 - 1.6v at tickover and if you disconnect the vacuum tube and plug it the voltage should then read between 2.38 and 2.78v.
( using a volt meter between pressure sensor terminals A and B)
Therefore, presumably, it can be deduced that the MAP sensor is not reading any vacuum? As stuarts reading is 2.69 volts and a blocked MAP sensor reads between 2.38 and 2.78 volts.
Isn\'t there Meant to be a one way valve in that vacuum pipe? If so, is it present? Is it round the right way?
2 days of checking resistance from ecu plugs to all sensors on engine, everthing perfect. checked map sensor by blowing into it and the voltage did rise. last thing i colud think of was a dodgy fuel gauge, although reading 1/4 full, sure enough she fired up sweet as a nut with a gallon of fuel!!!!!!!!
although map sensor voltage is still 2.69 volts on tickover,
if map sensor reads 1v to 5v for different manifold boost pressure 2.69 is middle pressure, therfore would it be running rich on tickover???
it does smell very rich...
2.69v equates to .25 bar thats not my tickover!!!
what intake and water temps should i be getting with a std rad and a trust v mount intercooler with twin blitz induction?
on the way to rotorstock cruising 80mph with no boost, 90 to 95 water and 40 - 50 air without fans, 85 to 90 water with fans.
im starting to think it could be heating up cause to rich besause of map sensor voltage. any ideas??????
im booked in for mapping on 18th june at pips, done 400 miles now, but are these temps to high???
I had a dodgy map sensor recently, which caused mine to run really really lean at low revs - so it can effect you mixture, that\'s for sure. Mine was popping and banging all over the place, and that was just due to a crappy MAP sensor.
