Thanks for the attention..........
Would like to know why some, sorry "MOST" on here are not \'paying members\' but use the the forums same as or even far more than the the ones that play fair and carry the can for others!
Sorry but I cannot understand, we don\'t exactly drive a cheap few hundred pound cars,, and they are actually one of the most costly cars to run. Either maintainence or petrol bills.......
Surly the price of a 1/2 tank of fuel won\'t leave you homeless!
Their is no excuse, but lets hear them anyway!
1.
Can only agree,
Ive had loads of info from the forum thats saved me much more than the small amount of membership, would have been even more expensive:eek:
i would of joined at japfest if anyone was willing to say more than three words to me, and there were plenty who could of
I am joining at RS2, personally I think its a tad too expensive but like you say, £25 won\'t make me homeless and I wish £25 was 1/2 a tank, last time I filled it up I remember it being closer to £70!!!
Anyway, the mr2oc.co.uk only charges £5 for membership, and it runs 365days from the day you pay, not janurary-through. The technical forum is only avaliable to full paying members, there is a know your 2 section (faq) including buyers guide ect and a very extensive discount section including skyinsurance and theaa.
There is always a gayzeebo and bbq going for members at shows and constant local meets and rr days.
For me thats a hell of alot for your £5, but they wont on the bases that if its cheaper more people will join so youll get the same if not more people paying and people are happy to pay.
Thats my imput, but like I say, I\'m joining at RS2 and don\'t begrudge paying, Just make sure you all talk to me :p
Hi all,
Don\'t forget that for this weekend only at ROTORSTOCK-II we are doing a membership special.
You can join the club for only £20.
As I have put in the News section, we will be making some changes over the coming weeks in an effort to encourage more people to join so that we can really provide our members with something special.
Nice one, £5 extra for beer tokens :rollin
Will pay at RS 11, not a problem should have done it ages ago. I think restricted use of the forum will make people join. I have no issues over the cost. However, i do agree that the Year membership should run from date of joining.

You obviously didn\'t bump into scooby or Clive - they\'d both talk the hind legs fof a donkey given half a chance!!!
Conversation from Si would be a little slurred and about some bird called \'Stella\'. Clive\'s would be about anything and everythign rotary (or yellow!).
I let my membership lapse as I\'ve had other things on my mind recently and in all honesty, I haven\'t got round to it so I\'ll be paying at RS!
I joined before I got my car. It has saved me a lot more than the £25 I paid.
don;t be tight support the rotary club.
In Grinders case TIGHT A$$ :rollin :rollin :rollin
I have found from the start that MRC is actually one of the friendliest clubs to be on, can\'t believe no one spoke to you????
I was not there or would have done, perfect chance this weekend to get to know everyone as nearly everyone on here will be there :D
Gurj
Good thread! Well done!
Its in the wrong place but for a good reason so i will leave it.
I paid not long after getting on the forum many moons ago...
It is a very friendly club. Everyone i have met so far has been great, even after i p1ssed every one off last year by making a racket in the campsite at R1! :p
Clubs are what you guys make of it so get involved and you will get more out of it, at the beginning when you first attend events it is difficult if you dont know anyone, b ut show and interest ask questions and introduce yourself, and it will be fine, and after we have bored you for a while you will wish you hadnt bothered!
;) (only joking!)
Im same as sadgoth, although I thought I recalled membership was re-occuring if you done it online, im obviously in a bit of a kerfuffle, enough excuses, ill pay at rs2 :)
can\'t believe no one spoke to you????

"Membership runs from 1st January to 31st December each year"
That\'s why. £25 for 12 months I have no problem with. £25 for 6 months just because no one can be bothered to record expiration dates I do.
1st Jan next year, I\'ll sign up.
lots of clubs run the jan-dec joining dates.
Just think how much work it is to keep track of all the join dates and take the money and send out reminders and ... you get the idea.
tight a$$ here .... i mean grinder
i pay because where can i have such a good laugh for £20 a year :)
and ive paid twice - hang on thats £40 - hummmmm LOL !!
and the part year thingy - yeah thats a logistical nightmare i bet - but on the flip side - if you join in sept you get 16 mths for the price of membership !! ( or summat like that )

No work at all. Especially given the memberships are sold through the website. Would take about half an hour to write a script to automate the entire process. Could probably even tie it into the forum software.
Standing Order--Direct Debit.:wave
There is actually a subscription manager in vb3 which we will be upgrading to in the next couple of weeks.
There is still so much that goes on behind the scenes, from when the person pays for their subscription through to delivering the packs etc.
The whole process is involved, Stu0x - if you think you can make something much simpler for us then please send me a PM or email to discuss. There will be free membership in it for you!!
I haven\'t thought the whole thing through but there are a few things we are putting in place to make the admin easier, like our own online shop, next step is to make payment easier (i.e. providing other options of payment, as at the moment we only do PayPal).
The ultimate would be linking the Forum software with the Shopping Cart and Payments system - but I think that would be too much work. Lisa etc. still has to put the membership packs together to send out.
The reason most clubs to a Jan - Dec membership is simly to cut down on admin. If would be a real hassle to be renewing people\'s membership at staggered dates - so much easier to do it in bulk at the end/beginning of a year.
We are certainly welcome to suggestions - anything to make our lives easier, and to make the club bigger and better!

As Glenn said - if you\'ve got the time, energy and skills to help the club out with this kind of thing it\'s really important you (and others) step up and help out.
Clive has said it a number of times and will probably say it a hundred more...
MRC is our (it\'s members) club and will be whatever we choose to make it. The club can only offer what we help it to offer. If we don\'t get involved and put anything in then the club will not do anything or put anything out.
The current push for people to get their fingers out and stop freeloading isn\'t about getting more money so Clive and Lisa can have a nice holiday or even so the club can stand out amongst all the other clubs as being the biggest, brightest and best. It\'s all about making the club fulfil it\'s potential.
If people just want a web forum then great, go set one up but MRC is about more than that. Well, it should be.
This is not just aimed at you Stu, but at everyone coming out with crap excuses for not supporting the club.
This is really aimed at people who own rotary cars and count themselves as part of the community/forum:
If you don\'t think the club is worth supporting with your £25 each year then why don\'t you set up a club that is worth it. In 6 months when you realise how much work and expense comes from it MRC will still be here to help and support.
Iain
LESS THAN 50 PENCE A WEEK FOR ACCESS TO A CLUB LIKE THIS! With tremendous knowledge, backup, and advice, on tap from experienced, dedicated, and committed, club members, For me membership of this Club has been an investment, and saved me a fortune! (certainly more than 25 measly quid) i would not have even found the car i wanted let alone the problems i have avoided, thanks to the club, and i even got parts/entrance fees, cheaper, personally i like to pay for good value anyway, i am not able to help run the club, so my way of putting something back is to pay a very cheap membership fee, if my small contribution helps keep things going in any way at all, for those who want it all for free, so be it! everything costs,
Well over 100,000 posts put up! thats an awfull lot of information availiable, where else could you get that? I can only imagine the amount of time being put in behind the scenes to keep it all running smoothly. with little thanks i imagine! Well worth every penny IMHO and much more!
I would also from experience have more faith in buying parts from a fellow Club Member, than someone who is not!
Bob (FULL CLUB MEMBER)
My few pence worth! and paid for!
my car is in many bits so won\'t be going to RS2, will probably be sitting at home polishing, for some reason i thought it would be a good idea, just started doing the gearbox and i don\'t know why:D
i will catch up with you at another event and try again,
QuoteClive\'s would be about anything and everythign rotary (or yellow!). [/B]
I hereby dub myself "mini-Clive" in that case :D
We were thin on the ground at Japfest, because it\'s THIS weekend that\'s the biggy for us - so sorry about that, but don\'t be put off...

"Paid" and "Stu" in the same post?
Who are you, and what have you done with the real grinder?!
I\'m a member, and proud of it. It paid for itself when i got my insurance! :D
And will hopefully help pay for other bits and pieces in the future!
Being a new member please tell me what Id get for my £25???
scoobynet runs for free which is great... but all forums here are available to non paying members, if half the forums we\'re locked them Id consider stumping up cash ;) :D £10 for the RTOC club and thats worth its value in gold IMO... £25 is steep but I\'ll pay if somebody tells me what I\'ll get out of it?
Dave
Well i want a refund for putting up with the likes of:
Scooban (relegated muppet)
Grinder (Tight a$$ muppet)
Brooksie (cheeky muppet)

I will collect payment @ Rotorstock thanks :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin
Gurj:rolleyes:
Quotesexy muppet

Hmmm - maybe we should pay by the kilo of body weight... if the average cost would be £25, that means Gurj owes £376.47p...
:D

So, even if Stu was you, Stu, it wouldn\'t be aimed at you, or Stu.

To name a few things:
- Insurance discounts
- Club newsletter
- First shout at club organised events
- Warm fuzzy feeling for supporting the club
- Discounts with various vendors
To name but a few. Actually, if you spend 10 minutes looking at the list of benefits that membership gives you then you may see that you actually get quite a lot for you £25...
To save searching the relevant forum is here (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=43) .
At the end of the day the forum isn\'t cheap to run... it uses a huge amount of bandwidth that has to be paid for and your subs are used for that amongst other things.
Bottom line - if you don\'t want to join then no-one is forcing you (or anyone) to join. It\'s your choice. Those of us who are members feel we get enough out of it to justify paying our subs. What we\'re trying to do at the moment is encourage people who get something out of the club to put a little back in so the club can move along to \'the next level\' where more events are organised for the members to enjoy.

There is still so much that goes on behind the scenes, from when the person pays for their subscription through to delivering the packs etc.
If you\'ve already got a vb subscription app it shouldn\'t be too hard to just build a function that checks the date and adjusts the validity/flags for action based on that.
Having said that, if there is significant \'real world\' work with renewing subs etc then a fixed date makes more sense from that perspective for you guys.
If that\'s the case, a \'quick fix\' would be to simply offer a pro-rata rate for the initial subscription period to take you up to January, whereupon you renew a full 12 months. That shouldn\'t be too tricky to do through the webapp - have it check the date, backdate to the month start, multiply it by a monthly rate (2.10GBP), and pass it as a variable to Paypal, very simple function.
Don\'t get me wrong, I don\'t think £25 is an unreasonable amount by any means for a year\'s subscription, and understand why you might want fixed dates for your purposes, but you don\'t (for example) pay a year\'s insurance premium for 6 months cover just because you happen to need insurance in May. Sorry if you think that\'s a crap excuse iaint.
I think we all (quite sensibly!) try out any club website before we join, for a few months and enjoy some of the benefits, i know i did then i found my car thanks to the club, then joined it, The point is i had a few FREE months as well, which in effect are included in the measly £25 membership fee! So i think in that way we certainy get our moneys worth, i just got a discount on RS2, weekend, what with that and the one i got for Brooklands, i dont know how the club does it all for £25, Fantastic club, Fantastic value for money, For serious committed Mazda owners

Actually I think it\'s a valid point - maybe a half-year subscription should be available from end-June although I suspect people would moan that it\'s the end of Feb and I\'ve lost out on 2 months so I\'ll wait until July...
At the moment the whole membership is not automated at the \'business end\' i.e. it falls to Lisa to produce the membership packs and cards and handle the accounting/bookkepping for it all. Not sure how pro-rating the membership would ocmplicate it though and now RS is done and dusted maybe it\'d be looked at.
People have had the abaility to join online (and people have done so) for most of the year though, not just since the last month.

Who/when/where did you ask? Have you noticed that online membership is available? It\'s also been available for the whole of this year, if not longer via the rotary-tarts website...
Well ive just voted in the poll, dont think its worth it. Simple enough really.

Better hope your car never has a problem then, Lee. Simple as that.
