Servicing\'s an easy one - Oil and filter every 3k miles.  Plugs every 12k.  Coolant something like every 30k/2 years.  There\'s an official Mazda service interval chart on the site somewhere if you do a search.

Easy to do yourself (plugs can be a pain if you\'re not double jointed).

Pretty damn cheap really - no timing belts/chains to change, very few moving parts.

Rebuilds tend to be in the 60k region on most imports but really does depend on how well maintained the car is.   Depending on budget you should be able to get a recently rebuilt car for a decent price ~8K and up.

Price depends totally on what\'s broken.

If it\'s thrown a tip then it could be pretty badly damaged (inc. the turbos) but this is fairly rare except on very worn, poorly maintained or highly tuned engines.

More common is failure of the water seals (equiv to head gasket on a boinger).  This is often caused by poor maintenance and overheating.  Often less damage to the engine is less and more bits can be re-used.

Rebuilds quotes tend to be around £2500 BUT that would be based on almost complete re-usage of core components.  If there\'s much wear then the price will be higher.  Sometimes the rotor housings can be re-used but xometimes not and new ones add a chunk to the cost...  Still cheaper that a rebuild on a boinger I think!

If you\'ve got lots of questions then get along to a meet or one of the Jap shows...  Rotorstock is on next weekend (sunday and monday) near stratford-on-avon.  Should be a top day out and you\'ll find loads of ratary nutters who\'ll talk you ears off and answer all your questions and more!

hi and welcome....

some good news....

I bought a jap import back in sept last lear...

a quoted 95Km on the clock... so about 60k miles and though ok, take alook at the car and asses the wear and tear for 60k miles and see if it fits.... if it dont walk away.

if its too good to be true walk away

I bought mine for 6500 quid and ahd no problems with it... ahs cost ame no more that 1000 pounbd since purchase, and 500 quid of this was for a new clutch!!!

have seviced it myself oil and filter as above and have coolant flush and put new plugs in 4 x 9\'s

it is completely standard... stillahs the tool kit and even the road flare!....

it was a company car in jaopan so has been serviced regularly.
it cam over as a 3.5 auctions score... abit low maybe but it was only the boddywork that let it down abit... few minor sctraches and a couple of pin dents.
engine is fine

and it is a great car to drive....

will make you smile everytime you drive it

last piece of advice  dont buy the first one you look at... look at loads, get used to what to look for....  a bit of emulsion in the oil filler cap is ok... unlike a \'boinger\'  check colour of oil... if it has been serviced well the oil should be clean

get new tyres and the jap rubber can be a bit dodgy

and drive it well

Ive heard its atrocious, is it really that bad?, i know you dont buy a car like the rx7 tt for the economy, or indeed the car i have now.

Depends, as always, on loads of factors.  I\'ve got a mildly modded car with a rebuilt and ported engine.  Putting out around 300fwhp (as opposed to 255 official for that year/model).  I generally get between 18 and 24 depending on the level of hoonage and traffic.  Long motorway journies @ 80 will see 24ish, traffic jams 18...

Like you say though, you don\'t get these cars for sensible mpg - they\'re all about the grin factor.

Just out of interest, what is the drive split on an Evo in tarmac mode?

And have you got a GSR or an RS?
