Title: Exhaust Suggestions for my FD
Post by: Alex on May 16, 2005, 11:48:14 PM
Need some help again people :D

My Blitz exhaust decided to have the backbox become a seperate piece the the centre section!!  Where the pipe enters the backbox has just snapped so time for some new hardware and for my sorely battered plastic to get a bit more grief.

So, my ideal exhaust would obviously be stainless and not too quiet.  Some noise is good IMO ;)  and I just wanted to get any feedback from anyone with good/bad stories of each type of backbox that you\'ve got before I shell out any cash.

Thought I\'d also attach a piccy of my FD fresh from paintwork and gettin new wheels, just cos I can\'t stop grinning.

Cheers for any and all opinions on the backboxes.

I had a KSP catback system, single 4" exit. Nice deep burble at tick over (deeper than a scooby sound). Just had it decatted and downpipes. Similar burble but when its fully opened up sounds bloody loud.

I think Ross at Dragon has a 2nd hand one for sale at the mo.
KSP is a Jap Tuner btw.

Rich :)

I\'ve got a Dragon one, 6" Jap style. They offer a lifetime warranty on it. Pretty damn loud to be honest.

Rich,  My FTO (which I still have and need to sell) has got a Tube Torque double exit system on it, so I can vouch that they are awesome.  I just wanted to know if any of the Jap systems were any good.

McCarthy, Had an HKS on the FTO before the Tube Torque and the mild steel internals got blown out the back end eventually, so not wanting to go there again.  Maybe they\'re OK for the Rex, but not keen anymore.

Steve, the Blitz I\'ve got at the moment has rusted through, which disappoints me considering it\'s supposed to be stainless.

JP285, the front bumper needed lots of remedial work including taking the bar out of the front intake and removing the plate mounting points.  I got the sideskirts fixed and repainted, B-Pillars blown in properly to fix a previous bad job before my ownership and the rear bumper re-sprayed, and all the paintwork renovated and buffed.  All in cost me £600 which considering the man-hours fixing the mazdaspeed front end it was a real bargain ;-)

Everyone else, really appreciate all the input.  I think it\'s helped in pushing me towards a decision on this.  Now I just need to find some cash PDQ to get one.

Cheers all.

Chris,

I got the spraywork done by my local sprayshop.  It\'s called Autobody Care, in Northwich (01606 75655).  Tony is the owner and he\'s been a real star for me with my last few cars.  He\'s never phased by a challenge and did all the work on my FTO without a murmer of complaint :D

I\'ve just had a Dragon 5" stainless exhaust put on today.  Wav from this forum was selling it just at the right time for me and it got me sorted out nicely.  Cheers to Wav BTW, hope the project gets there and top-class delivery time with the goods ;)

Rb\'s sound ok, as you say stock looking and not too loud, Pip (WGT) does one thats simalar which is full stainless.

The RB i had experiance with was the 3" Twin (the old Mild Steel one) and that lasted about 7-8 years.

The car in question had a 3" down pipe,Knocked out cat and the Rb cat back.

The best part about the RB was the fact there was very little boost Spike.

I would recomend one if you want to keep things tame.
