My brother is looking at an 86 rx7, turbo model. Body is a bit rough on it but he was wondering whats parts availability like for them and is there anything he should look for when inspecting it? Also what price are tuning parts for them eg. 2 way diffs, roll cages, intercoolers and stuff?
Also the car has been parked up for about 4 months, just after a new engine was put into her. She wount idle, but goes like the clappers so compression seems fine. Maybe it justy needs a tune?
Any info greatly appreciated
rust wud be a major issue for me..make sure u look very where for it!! wheel arches any seals etc etc try and get right under the car and look or if u can get it onto a ramp wud be better!! if its had a new engine that the compression sud be sound worth running it thru an mot b4 u buy tho!!
cheers colin
well he\'s planning of using it for drifting instead of his ae86, hence the body condition not important to him. Its just the sunroof, and slight bubbling on arches, with a lot of paint fade thats the problem with the body. But whats actual tuning parts for these like? are they hard to get and what price?
Cheers
most of the tuners selling the parts - depends on how deep your pockets are !!
im confused at it being an 86 turbo ?? didnt realise they did them in that year ( unless its an import ?? )
and rust - hummm thats usually the bad point
check :
sills ( inner and outer )
front jacking points
arches
spare tyre well

Well its a lad who used to drive it in england but when he moved to ireland, he couldnt insure it thanks to our lovely cheap insurance:mad:. ya she\'s an 86....will check though. Definately a turbo.
I was also told that the non turbos have a single exhaust but the turbos have two. Is this true?
Er no. 86 turbo will be visually similar to the non turbo in the exhaust area. Check around the inside edges of the sills for crippling rust.
if you want to know about rust
search for a thread called DIS-HEARTENED - you will seem some interesting pics in there !!
Dis-heartened!!! You got your work cut out, best of luck with it. Wheres the best place to get parts for this model? coilovers and diffs? also are all 2nd generation parts inter changeable??
i did all the welding and the car passed its MOT
have a look on that thread again and there are two links at the end to show the work done ( thanks again to TREX for the links )
try Pip @ WGT he can get all sorts of parts , or Dragon , or ... this list goes on matey
and as far as interchangable parts - depends on what you are on about
the TII have different skirts and front nose cones aswell as different seats etc..
but i think the basic parts are interchangable ( suspension , steering etc.. )
why you have an idea of what parts - post a thread about it - you will then get specific advice
take care
