I have experienced some problems with the coolant system which is confusing me as to what is exactly wrong.
Basically the car was left running for approx 20 mins and then temperature guage went right up and the coolant light came on. The car was switched off straight away. There appeared to be air in the coolant system.
The next day I topped the system up and the car appeared to run fine and after about 10 mins driving the coolant light came on again and the temp guage went up. 30 seconds later the temp guage dropped back down and the light went out. This happened for the rest of the journey with the guage going up and down. However, the greddy gauge remains steady reading between 75-90C.
This leads me to believe it could be a fault with the instrument cluster guage, air in the coolant system or a faulty pressure cap.
I contacted Rotechnics and they didn\'t like to commit over the phone but said that the pressure cap is a common problem.
Does anyone have any ideas based on there own experiences as to what the trouble might be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
Do you know if the coolant system is pressurising. If you can reach the top hose give it a squeeze when the car is up to temp.
You can get the caps from any motor factors............
If the coolant light and buzzer is coming on then it would suggest that the car is loosing a lot of coolant.

There might be a air pocket in the system somewhere as it sounds like a problem associated with that.
Fill the coolant level up and then leave the pressure cap off and see if there are loads of bubbles ? if so then you might cure it, if not then something else dude.:(
thanks for those replies
further to what i wrote before:-
It is definitely not the thermostat, we bled the coolant system as much as possible and appeared to get most of the air out although there was very little hot air coming out of the heater in car. The temperature remained constant and was left to idle for sometime with no problems at all.
We then went for a test drive and all was well, drove great, no coolant problems, breaking your neck under acceleration, flames but no smoke or steam from the exhaust.
The car was then left too cool down and no water was lost. Then we went out again and it started playing up again, coolant buzzer would come on, 30 seconds later it would go off, then on again, then off.
has anyone got any more ideas on this....
May be an electrical glitch....
