Title: Cheap 98 RX7 Questions
Post by: NixRX7 on May 10, 2005, 04:33:24 PM
I have found an 1998 T reg Rx7 for sale, they are asking £6995 for it.
Obviously this is very very cheap, so as its from a garage i would expect the Engine to be a bit sad, even tho its listed as 48k only.

Apparently its been HPI checked etc (can you do that with an import? )

the car looks to be completely standard.

My question is this, would it be worth buying, and then getting the engine overhauled etc, which would cost in total about 10 -11k, which is still cheap for a 98.

what do you all think

I would be checking that this \'98\' is actualy a 98 and not a ringer sounds stupidly cheap to the point of saying there must be a catch to this:reallymad

If it\'s in a garage not 500 yards from Keighley\'s door then I\'d pass if I were you. I saw two RX\'s there and when question\'d they suspiciously said \'rebuild?. Nah, don\'t know what you\'re talking about mate\'.
I would never buy a RX without a compression test done.

Mart.

the thing is, if its really a 98, i dont mind buying it and then rebuilding the engine, i would still end up with a cheap car.
I am more concerned with the fact it may be a bitzer or something like that.

It\'s not uncommon for traders to state the year of the car as actually being the year it was registered in the UK, can be very misleading.

Get the chassis number and post it on here. You can get a reasonable idea of the era of the car from the starting number.

Example of misleading info: I looked at what was claimed to be a 2002 FD last year. It was even plated as a 2002 car. The chassis number actually dated it to 99/00. But the dealer swore blind it was "one of the last" because the paperwork said so. When asked for the paperwork......"er....don\'t have it here at the moment, mate". Guess what...I walked!!

Car is total scam, i asked them to send me a few pictures including the door sticker.

From the vin number on there it looks to be an early model 93.

I emailed them back saying the cars not a 98 its a 93,, how can you advertise it as a T plate.

They responded with " well the car was imported in 98, and the first letter of the number plate is T"

unbelievable, bunch of con men.

Nik,

Please name and shame them as this is one of the reason for a forum like this to exist to protect other like yourself. Somebody else might not know how to check and end up buying it.

Tiny little garage in Hampshire called Romsey Car Center.
They also advertise the car as a manual, and its a bloody Auto.

If you go to there site, and click on "find car" then choose "mazda" then "RX7" it displays there stock as MAZDA RX7 1998 T

hope this helps stop anyone getting caught out by them
