Ok Guys,
Am in need of some real help here. Had my car re-mapped today, seeing 370 at the wheels. Drove 150 odd miles home without incident, changes up and down gears all fine. Called in at my friends and when i left no clutch, or should i say no clutch pedal. It is a twin plate clutch and usually the pedal is extremely heavy with the biting point about 3/4 inch from the floor.
Now i have the following Symptons :-
The pedal feels as though it is loose, there is no feeling of pressure behind it. However if i "Pump" the pedal the weight/pressure seems to come back; enough to allow me to change gear(but soon disappears again), but the moment i touch the pedal there is a god awful screetching sound (very similar to that of when cam belts are slipping on normal cars; is the only way i can think to describe it).
Now when i was struggling to find gears, i did accidentally get it into second instead of fourth, and i got a burst of revs to about 6K and for a short while that actually seemed to solve the problem. ( so maybe something is sticking somewhere?)
Sometimes when depressed and trying to change gears it also feels like the car is going to stall and the battery charge light comes on, headlights and dash lights dim as do the lights on the gauges. In fact as i pulled into my driveway, i did put my foot on the clutch to try and coast into the drive and it did stall.
Now the clutch itself isn\'t slipping and handles the power fine, so i\'m guessing (and i mean that literally) that it\'s probably a problem between the pedal and the clutch mechanism somewhere??
Sorry for the long post, but just trying to describe all the symptoms as accurately as possible to enable (hopefully) an accurate diagnosis by all you Rotary tech heads out there.
Scott
hav u checked for a leak in the pipe that runs from the master cylinder..twin plates do screech..my single exedy does and have heard same story from other people..but loosing pedal feel seems to hint at a leak as it is a fluid based system as opposed to clutch cable..could be the actual cylinder thats faulty
Hi Scott,
Unfortunately this sounds like the clutch operating fork inside the bellhouseing has cracked and bent which is a fault l have now seen several times especially when uprated clutches are used.
Where the pivot point is there are two drilled holes with roll pins through and this is where they break, the arm then bends back and reduces the movement the fork has and this is why when you pump it you will pump out the slave cylinder and just about get a clutch.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but l think this is probably what has happened, but l do hope l am wrong :( :(
RX7-Veilside: The screetch isn\'t that of the clutch, never had it before today.... My clutch usually makes a metalic hissing sound, which i am now used to.
Any idea what the likely cost of repair will be??? Could i obtain an the parts needed from an RX7 breakers or has it got to be a a specific one for the twin plate??? Can it be done by a local garage or is it back to a rotary specialist?? Sorry for all the questions, but after spending just over a grand on mapping plus a few upgraded bits, i\'m not sure if i can get it done, so might not be able to make Rotorstock II :( unless i can get it done fairly cheaply.
Ok, spoke to Pip
He seems to think it\'s a hydraulics problem, as by pumping the clutch pedal, i can actually get it to work. He\'s told me to check the inspection plate under the car on the drivers side, just to rule out the clutch operation fork.
But he is 99.9% sure it\'s either a seal, split pipe or problems with the cylinder. Good news is that my partners uncles run a vehicle recovery/service station/garage and will pick the rex up and check it out and fix it for me :D
So hopefully be back on road by the end of the week :D :D :D
