Title: Overfuelling?
Post by: SideShowBob on July 11, 2003, 05:12:02 PM
What are typical symptoms of a rex overfuelling? (\'93 Type-R)
My exhaust seems to get to a very black state very quickly, and Im always gettings loads of pops and bangs, so thought perhaps this indicated overfueling?

I know overfueling is a lot better than underfueling, but are there any negative sides to overfuelling? (other than petrol consumption!!)
and what would typical symptoms be?

I have induction, exhaust, no cat, and a knightsports ecu, and these things may well be normal, but thought id check.

Cheers
Graham

Excessive Popping and banging is generally over fuelling and if you are too rich at the top end, will negatively impact on power. Car may stumble almost like a misfire if over fuelled high up the rev range as well.

Exhaust soot in the exhaust should be on the grey side of black really!

Other than power being effected, you may be pushing the injectors and fuel pump more than needed, so I would advise that you really need to get the beast mapped properly with A/F readings taken into account.

If you are over fuelled throughout the full range of revs, mapping the car will produce more power, less popping and banging and put less stress on the injectors/fuel pump and your wallet ;)

Thanks Max, that sounds exactly right.
Ive got a Knighsports ecu, so no one can map or program them, so it will mean getting something else like a Motec or Power FC I guess.

Good excuse to buy more bits, but im going to leave it as is for a while, and hopefully it doesnt cause any probs for now.
