Title: Instrument Binacle/Cowl
Post by: nikp on May 08, 2005, 02:06:46 PM
Does anyone know how to remove the cowling from the instrument binacle? I have just managed to snap it trying to get it out, so not only do i need to get it out, but i need to replace it now! :reallymad

To be precise, I have managed to undo everything, except at the back, at it don\'t wanna come off there - hence it snapping! I thought it might unclip, but instead it snapped!

if I remember correctly you need to undo all the screws then pry the instrument panel out of the plastic clips

Hope this helps

Yeah, I\'ve found that out now  But I\'ve now shattered it in the process and its in bits! I don\'t think the sun helps - it makes the plastic more brittle, and the clips less flexible, so by the time you try and take it out, you\'re fighting a losing battle!

Theres a clip at the very front that seems to get itself wedged into the plastic housing - I spent about 10 mins jiggling the cover until it wore itself loose.

I struggled to find a replacement cowl when the idiots that did the speedo conversion broke mine.  I ended up repairing it with fibreglass and filler, and repainting it matt black.  Looks as good as new ;)

Cheers

A more common problem than i thought! Funny you should say this, it\'s what I\'m trying to do now! Hopefully should have a good looking cowl very soon!
