Post by: gavin on May 01, 2005, 05:05:41 PM
COMING BACK FROM CRAIL TODAY AND CAR WAS DRIVING FINE, HAD BEEN RAINING HARD AND ALOT OF PUDDLES ON THE ROAD ONLY WENT 2MILES AND THEN FELT A MISS FIRE WHICH GOT WORSE UNTIL THE CAR WOULDNT REV ANY MORE AND DIED, TRYED TO GET IT STARTED PETROL COMING OUT THE EXUAST SO REMOVED THE EGI AND FLOORED IT, AFTER NEARLY GOING I PUSHED IT FOR A BIT THEN TRYED AGAIN AND IT STARTED AND WAS RUNNING FINE, ALL THIS HAPPENED WITHIN 20 - 40 MINUTES, SO TAKING IT EASY GOT ABOUT ANOTHER 5 MILES AND IT STARTED MISSING AGAIN AND BANGING AND POPING LIKE CRAZY WHEN OFF THE GAS, COULDNT REV ABOVE 3000RPM AS THE MISS WAS SO BAD, LIMPED THE 50 MINUTE RUN HOME BUT ON THE COMMANDER THE TEMP WAS BETWEEN 5 DEG - 65 ALL HOME BUT NEVER HAD ANY PROBS WITH TEMPS BEFORE SOUND LIKE SOMTHINGS GONE FAULTY, WASNT TILL I PUT IT IN THE GARAGE AT HOME TILL I NOTICED FLAMES FROM THE EXUSTER AND WHEN IDLEING SLIGHT FLASHES SMELLS OF FUEL AS WELL,

CAR IDLES FINE AND NO FLUCTUATING BOOST GAUGE OR REV COUNTER NEEDLE, ALSO STARTS FINE AS WELL, ALTHOUGH I DID FLOOD IT YESTARDAY AND HAD THE PLUGS OUT TO GET IT GOING - ENDED UP LEAVING IT TILL THIS MORNING AND SHE STARTED AS NORMAL, BUT HAD DONE A GOOD HOURS DRIVING GOING TO CRAIL WITH NO PROBS, ANY IDEAS HAVENT LOOKED AT ANYTHING YET AS ITS STILL HOT

Hi Gavin

Car sounds very much like how mine was when i first got it. Sure it was something to do with the O2 sensor. Marc at the Garage in Wishaw spent ages sorting it out as it seemed to be a breathing problem..inc removing the exhaust, replacing fuel filter, plugs..in the end it came down to the O2 sensor..I think!!

Hope this helps

Marc

..i reckon (not that i\'m an expert) that it is more likely the O2 sensor..the car wasn\'t great until this was replaced and we were sorted!!!Just my pennies worth...

Hi Gavin,

Sorry to hear you have problems,

From memory an o2 will cost around  Â£85 , but l am also a bit suspicious that your ECU may have gone into limp mode if you have a stock one.

If you have a stock ECU, disconnect the battery then pump the brake ( yes really) then reconnect the battery and see what you get .

Even if it then runs OK you would need to get your electrics checked but hopefully its just that water has got in somewhere and triggered limp mode to activate , fingers crossed.

What type of O2 sensor is on the RX7 ?

If its of the standard 1/2/3/4 wire type its probably a zirconia type and could be replaced with a universal type, which cost about £25 / £45 dependant on type

I got quoted nearly £100 quid for one for my MR2 Turbo, then found out it was just a bog standard 3 wire type and got a universal one.

Couple of links for you if it is possible to replace with a Uni one

you can turn o2 feedback correction off on the Apexi, give that a go. It\'s in the etc menu if I remember rightly.

Thanks  Hawkmoon
if it is the sensor ive just had a look at the wire and its a single black one http://www.gendan.co.uk/viewproduct.php?product=O21WIRE only £26.95 will get one ordered tomorrow and see what happens, although may wait havent tryed the car since it may be ok now (still thought it maybe something that got a bit wet after going through a big puddle) must be dryed out by now if it was, still raining here so wont be trying tonight

the car has the apexi ecu and commander and is still running base map, dont think it will make the trip to pips running how it is,
fingers crossed its only the sensor,

thanks for all the help will let you know if all is well,

took car out today and all seems to be ok regarding the above, strange but i think i will put it down to something getting wet unless it happens again,
only need to get my boost sorted now still getting the honking noise and poor 2nd turbo at 0.5 at best, ive checked as much as i can and it will now be left for pip to fix as soon as i get some spare cash,

cheers
