I just thought that since I am being pestered into showing some of my porting that I would put up a pic of a port that I have developed over the years of my own individual design.
The engine runs to 10,000 rpm and is used in circuit racing. The car has consistently won it\'s class for the last few years and won the overall championship a couple of years back!

Well thats different :D I\'ve seen rotor housings with bevels for big bridgeports but ... :rollin
I like the looped O ring grooves where the rotor housing has been ported.
I presume this is done because the rules prevent a Peripheral port intake.
Hi Mike,
Yes the porting is completely within the rules, the existing inlet port on the outer edge where the manifold joins must be original, but from that point on it is free.I have a monster bridge running not so much of a narrow part on the rotor housing too that i have designed with the original ports still open.
The engine with the ports shown has been running in this form for 4 or 5 years. But I have a number other porting "Tricks" too that are pretty neat and they are not the usual bridge or perpheral port configuration.
I may put some pics up of my dowelling and a turbo bridgeport.
Regards
Carl
i\'m sure any more photos would be of great interest.
a large J port in comparison looks rather small
Its almost like 2 halves of a P port with a bridge for the apex seals :D
You are right mike,
there is only 30mm width holding the apex seals in.
I call it my SP Port, or Side Peripheral port,
Regards
Carl
I was reading some stuff about Peripheral ports earlier on and how they leave a dead spot either side of the port and that some people (rohan Ambrose I think) was looking at doing a wide peripheral port with a bridge to stop the seals from dropping into it.
interesting stuff ... wonder what strange combinations will work best on rx8 engines in future years ? the unbroken rotor housings and side port exhaust must open up a few new options.

Who\'s been pestering you! Looks like when you copied my exhaust port, you got it upside down or do the rotors spin the other way.:rollin

I rather think that the boot is on the other foot Tim!At least my ports have been running for the last 5 years, and your\'s have only just been produced!LOL!
It is good to see that finally after years of trying to persuade you, that you are now doing porting,I can still remember not so very long ago that you were very much against the idea. And I will say that the porting you are doing is none too shabby either.Looking forward to your car running in anger again soon!

So how many of all these big ports are going to be running at RSII then?

Obviously not being pestered enough looking at how darkened the image is of your ports:D

Mine will be there, but alais thanks to Geff not running, but it will be on display on my stand for those who wish to look at his handywork.

I will try to take some more pics of the ports that are a bit lighter Brian.

I guess that since "Rotorstock" is not held at a race circuit, that the worth of my race porting will not be shown much.
Unlike the type of drag racing we seem to be into at the moment,in proper circuit racing there are extensive detailed rules to be followed absolutely and the fields of competition are very strong. If your engine is deemed to be illegal then you are thrown out of the years competion. They seal engines randomly and also winners to check them over in order to keep a check on "cheats".

I thought there was some kind of handling course or test thing happening at RS?

I think it has been cancelled.

Carl
The Auto solo which like a handling coarse has been cancelled due to lack of interest, but would not have been a circuit for racing. There is a drift circuit.
This has been an interesting thread with some monster porting from Carl.
When are we going to see what Reworx offer with there porting & reworx dowling, might be good for comparison. There customers might be interested in seeing what size ports they have.

Running for 5 years,in one engine.Where is an example of some porting for drag racing? Come on,you\'ve had 5 years.Your RX3 use to keep up with my 12A!
I don\'t think you persuaded me to do any porting,it was more out of necessity to make my 12A faster, considerably faster than you. :D
I hope one day soon you will make something to challenge the Purple Peril,it wouldn\'t take you long to port that RX3,so see you at Rotorstock then.:rollin

I am working on something, but it will not be ready for rotorstock!
Anyway you were the guy who said many times that porting was not neccessary, and we had plenty of lively discussions about it that I thought it was!LOL:D
I will try to give you some competition soonish for the Purple peril, and wish you all the best for it.Great work Tim,keep it up.

Can someone lead Rich a camera, we would like to see some porting, esp on the red dragger. Carl and most others have split the beans.......
Carl,
What series is that race engine running in? Is it a mixed series with boingers too?
I\'d show you my porting only mine is more of a chamfer...:rollin
Hi Brett
This car is racing at Brands on the 14th and 15th, and yes it will be troncing all over the mustangs, cameros and what ever get put in the race. Its quite an amazing little car, and the driver an\'t too shabby.
I\'d go and watch only I\'m booked to be putting a floor in my TII over that weekend
QuoteCarl and most others have split the beans..
Tim and Brian then. What about a Pip Port or a Ross Port maybe even a Hurley Port... Rotecnic\'s? Be good to see the ports from the fastest FD in the country, but I don\'t suppose it was just porting that made it that powerful.
More likely the fact it was having around 2 bar shoved through it.
Come on others, lets see the goodies, Rich is always badgering Carl for info and pictures. Surely they dont just copy them.
Housings.
I\'ve noticed that most of you (engine builders) are porting the housings, are you getting them recoated after this or do you run them on the aluminium like some of the bike rotarys?
here one I practised on earlier.......:D

Hi Brett,
The rubbing surface on mine still retains the Chrome.
I know that Tim of RX motors is playing with ceramic coatings in his new engine.
The Chrome is put on top of a steel insert which the Aluminium is moulded around.
I get my side housings re Nitrided.
