Title: Whats a safe air temp reading on PFC ??
Post by: shaunwil on May 01, 2005, 03:37:13 PM
As the subject says. I\'ve just finished off the FMIC and i\'m seeing higher intake temps  So whats classed as a safe temp on the intake. I\'m looking at about 40deg constant. If the air is nearer to 70 going in from the air from the rad the FMIC is doing a good job, but not as i expected !

I think i\'m going to have to move my airfilters to a cooler place (above rad at the min). But im struggling for routes through to beside the FMIC.

Would a C-west bumper be a good idea and get more air into the engine bay ?

Would removing the underside cover help air into the rad, lowering overall temps ?

I don\'t know what a good reading would be. I\'ve got a big aftermarket intercooler supplied and fitted by Pip. When I\'m flooring it it\'s not unusual to see temps of 51C. Never seen it go higher than that.

Is that a big stock mount or front mount? sounds high for a front mount?!

Its more the fact that it doesn\'t really want to go below 35deg thats worrying me. Even doing around the speed limit on the motorway just ticking over without boost. My standard smic used to cool right down, this seems to take forever ! Want to get it tuned, but can see it maybe being an issue on the rollers.

Where is the best place to mount the air filters on a setup like this ? Mines still not running on standard boost !

OR,

its down to setup too as the air intake wioll depend on how much air can actually get into the intercooler.

Also have a massive aftermarket radiator fitted via WGT so that helps too.

As you can see from the above pic loads of air gets in from the front nose as theres loads of room.

yeah I got one of his big alloy rads too. I think to be honest, the air scoop is set too high in the front bumper, so it\'s just not getting enough air into it. Planning on putting a C west on soon anyhow, so that will let plenty more get in, I\'ll just mesh it up and make sure the whol scoop is open to air.

I would say that its more to do with the amount of air im getting into the car at the front. I\'ve only got the stock bumper on and the hole isn\'t really too big. What style of bumper have you got on the front of you purple beastie ? Lovely as it is :)

May have to put off the injector upgrade and swap the front bumper over. I\'ll try and ask pip what he thinks. Don\'t think he\'ll be able to tune it at that level of temp, its only going to get higher on bigger boosts.

Is the WGT rad physically much bigger? may have alot of messing to do if it is !

There are plenty of people with stock noses not having issues with big intercoolers. See if the ducting/scoop is doing as it should.

Might be useful to compare peoples water and intake temps with front mounts and bigger stock mount intercoolers. Been done before I know but as we have larger numbers here...

Cheers guys ! Im more worried about it running too high on the rollers ! Im going to try a different route for the turbo side of the intercooler. Got some spare bends and tube so not a big job ! See if i can get the upper filter lower down and into the air flow !

I need to take off the air pump (have it unplugged at the min). Do i need a underdrive pulley kit to remove the air pump or can i just remove it and replace the belt ?

Cheers :)
