Title: Single Turbo Conversion
Post by: eatmyrx7dust on April 30, 2005, 04:32:25 PM
Due to my stock twins having seen better days, I was persuaded in having a HKS TO4R kit fitted.
The car had already had PFC, SMIC,porting, fuel and exhaust and intake mods done.
I was disapointed with the dyno figures. I am now having a Profec Boost controller fitted.
What should I expect rwhp at higher boost levels.
Is there a calculation to say calculate bhp at higher levels when you know it at say .75.

Dependant on your mods you should see 330 - 420r ish rwhp not  the best guess I know, a well sorted single WITH the right mods should see the higher end. Fueling and a free flowing exhaust are paramount though, and the ability to use it :D

Had Boost controller fitted and remapped on Dyno today by WGT.
Mod had major effect on performance.
See attached graph.
Pip at WGT let me watch procedure and explained changes as we went along (would highly recommend WGT to anyone!!).
Although graph doesnt show major peak BHP improvement over stock with mods (as claimed by some owners) the driving experience is a 100% better than the stock twins. The torque in 2nd gear is fantastic (measured at hubs means a 4:1 ratio I think !! equates to peak of 265lbft).

Forgot to say...the two curves represent hi and lo boost settings on controller. Lo boost set to target 0.8 Hi boost set to target 0.9 kg/cm.
Seems to equate to approx 20bhp per .1 of boost.

lol yea i did, dont know where he got the T04R from, its a T04E thats been fitted...small single, even the kid who bought the car from him a few months back thought it was the R,it wasnt until i seen a freinds turbo, that i realised it was a lot smaller, when i checked i couldnt believe it lol, thought when i test drove the car..it wasnt as potent as i thought it would be:3gears-rh

Theres deffo a visible difference in size between the two, TO4R is a very good turbo unit whereas the TO4E spools quicker but not massive on power output :mmmm

Adrian,

Can you clarify the above comments please?

Are you saying WGT deliberately misled you? - that they recommended the T04R turbo then supplied and fitted a different (inferior?) one?

I find it hard to believe that Pip would stitch you up.

Blimey, Is it that long since Adrian swapped his turbo over. Maybe stuff should be said very carefully. Lets not get into bother !

Adrian, did you get an evo in the end ? Would be really good to see you at mascarat if you fancy seeing some old faces :D

how good are wgt cos i\'ve imported a white fd with hks to4r, hard piping, additional injectors, manifold, turbo elbow, intercooler etc, all greddy and hks. it\'s getting mapped and dyno\'d at wgt as soon as it gets into the country end of next month. its through jm imports so thats who they use. are they good? cheers

WGT usually are very good, tuning wise pip knows his rotarys and doesn\'t go near the limit. I\'ve used pip to tune my FB and FD since owning them.

cheers for the reply. i\'m hoping that i will get a good dyno. jm imports reckon around 380bhp at the fly. this is the car if you want to have a look:

I\'m seeing 390hp at the fly from a T04e at 0.87bar and stock ports, that\'s on Pip\'s dyno at WGT when he fitted / mapped mine :)

Well I couldn\'t remain non-japanese forever. Just Px.ed my Alpha spider for something else.
I needed something practical, thought about an rx8 but not unique enough, so have just bought a G35 Skyline. Not as moddable as an RX7 but has some potential.
Does anybody still go to the Mascrat meet ? might bring it along and talk about old times !!! hehehehe.

Wow, long time :D

People don\'t really go to mascarat anymore. There was some issues with gatecrashers and the police got envoloved. There is a meet that is organised by the skyline owners club on the A6 near garstang. Usually on a Sat Afternoon.

Is the G35 the newer shape Skyline ??

Its called other names, such as the gt350 etc.

This is the same colour and year but not the actual car. The actual car photo is a bit pants - this one is better.

Same engine and a lot of the same components.

Looks like the Garstang meet is at the end of the month. Should definitely be able to make that !

g35\'s were branded as skylines in japan but never saw a gtr badge. I think underneath they are a 350z as they didn\'t really think it was quite skyline material. I think top secret converted one the 4wd and gave it about 800bhp maybe a bit more.
Title: Mods
Post by: eatmyrx7dust on January 07, 2008, 11:28:42 PM
I\'ve checked out a few modding sites, and you can buy a supercharger kit for about $6000 which will give you a reliable 400 at the fly. Again, I think its a 350z mod which has been tweaked.
