Title: masive clutch savings ?!?
Post by: michaelb on April 29, 2005, 07:11:35 PM
Hi

I just found out that I can get clutch plate relined for £100 plus VAT and that is just as good as getting a new clutch fitted.  It seems like a massive reduction in cost as I have spent in the past £600 for a clutch kit fitted for my 1996 RX twin turbo RB Bathurst jap import.  Has any one had the pleasure of clutch like this fitted.  I am after a normal, standard clutch.
The price was given to my by jimmys RX7.

Hi Fish

We have coresponded before...How are you doing ?
I do not think they replace the springs.  I had a good quote from
Carl from Hayward Rotary for a clutch kit fitted - £500 inclusive.  Standard one.
I am basicaly trying to keep the cost down...Maybe it is a falce policy to go for cheaper.  I probably should get a decent clutch..
Do u know any one who could beat £500 ?

I am taking my RX and a suitable babe to the Rotorstock, I guess u are going too ?

Hi michael

We sell complet stock clutches for £260 + VAT.

With a relined clutch all you will get is new ferodo rivited on an old worn center plate so your £100 may not be quite the bargin you think, also Mazda will only charge you £140 for a brand new center plate anyway !.

BTW, l have know and advised customers and members with stock FD\'s to just replace the center plate when they have had but this is only when the clutch has just started to slip and  this normaly first shows when the second turbo cuts in on wide open throttle, but if there is any signs of "blueing" on the pressure plate thsat sould be replaced as well.

Hope this helps.

Hi Clive

Many thanks for the info.  I am going to go for your advice.  How much do u charge for the job with the above clutch ?
How far r u from London ?
Incedently it kind of feels like it is not right when 2nd turbo cuts in
I do not get the power as before...
