Title: General Maintanance and Servicing
Post by: LeeHall on April 29, 2005, 12:39:58 AM
Being new to rotaries and being totaly stumped when looking under the bonnet, I was wondering (if this hasn\'t been covered before), if anyone could gibe me some ideas of the basic maintainance I should carry out i.e. oil top ups (what oils to use), water topiing up etc along with a labled pic of the RX engine bay so I know where to be putting what please?

Also, I was speaking to a mate who makes plug/HT leads for all sorts of cars and applications including race spec (his leads are often sold in different packaging by other companies, though I don\'t know which ones). Would it be worth thinking about these, at a very good price?

Thanks very much

Lee

I always use Magnecor Ignition leads and i\'d suggest 10mm ones at that with the heat of the rotary. The price is fairly cheap as they go so not worth buying the cheaper brands or size.

If your just topping up the water make sure its distilled.

Plugs should be NGK\'s 7\'s and 9\'s or 9\'s all round if its been played with. (If it has a huge turbo with big boost, ask a tuner)

Do a search on the oil and make your own mind up.

here\'s a pic of the oil and coolant systems

The plugs are a bastard to get to from above and unless you like shredded arms I reccomend going in from underneath.

This is a good picture that someone did a few years back. Might help.
