Title: WGT Tune up....at last
Post by: Adam on April 26, 2005, 07:08:37 PM
Some of you may know that i have been working on my car for a while now.  I rebuilt the engine my self and went single turbo (T04E).  Finally did my 1K run in and took it too Pip yesterday to have it set up.  All went really well apart from the oil return pipe for the turbo splitting spitting oil out all over his nice clean floor :) any way...  at 1.0 it showed 331.5BHP at the hubs but pip pointed out his machine needed calibrating again and it was 15% down so he said it was running 380ish at the hubs....good result i think??????.  The turbo is getting tired though (bought it 2nd hand) and doesn\'t seem to hold boost well at high revs....so keeping my eye out for a new one.
Pip said it was a good and felt really strong....and i found this out on the way home....  very enjoyable :)  Anyway, just thought i\'d post my results...

Cheers

turbos do wear but you might want to check the waste gate first, these seem to weaken first as the spring is constantly going.

Well done adam,  glad to see you got the results in the end.  What are the a/r\'s on your comp and exhaust housing on the turbo?,  my TO4 E wouldnt push more than one bar,

Also,  make sure you sort that turbo oil drain once and for all,  there have been a few engines that died cos the drain split while driving,  before you know it you\'ve pumped all your oil on the motorway and your engine is about as much use as a boat anchor!!  Now thats expensive,  especially as your turbo probably dies as well:mad:

I was lucky, mine developed a small leak first so i saw it before it got to bad.

Thanks Gurj...glad it was easy for you too sort....might see you at the weekend at the derby meet???

Yeah WGT sorted the pipe for me on the day but i will be keeping an eye on it just in case.  I should of been more careful as the one i fitted was the original one and it was a bit tired...

Cheers
