Title: standard discs and pad replacements and fitting?
Post by: Juz on April 24, 2005, 11:56:27 PM
i\'ve been advised to replace the front discs and all pads on my \'92 fds as they are roughly 2/3 worn. is this something i would have to goto an rx7 specialist for or would any off the shelf parts be ok? any particular recommendations, i don\'t want to upgrade to anything better than standard performance as i found the brakes to be more than adequate nor do i want to spend too much. thanks.

Black Diamond disc and pads are a good cheap upgrade, you could even look at Black Diamond discs with Hawk plus pads. Lots of guys on the forum running this combo.

It\'s a pretty easy job to do - the fronts are a little easier to do than the rears as the rears have a nice floating arrangement that can be a little tight to get undone.

Only difficulty I had on mine was getting the screws out that hold the font disc to the bell - it probably hadn\'t been off the car in 5+ years and was locked in place.  I had to drill it out until the seat was loosened enough (i.e. not drilled out completely but enough to remove part of the head).  They\'re not critical to holding the disk in place but make it easier to fit the pads.

Other than that it\'s simple :)

I upgraded to black diamond combi disks and hawke ht-10 pads which are awesome but dust like mad.  If you\'re happy with the standard parts then that\'s great but I wouldn\'t go back...
