Here I will post some details of my monster turbo 12A,as work progresses.Should be ready for Rotorstock.Well,I hope someone is interested!
Here is a comparison of the stock ports with the new ones.I figured they need to be 3 times as large,as I want 3 times the power.:D
here is the exhaust port and a ceramic coated rotor housing.
Tim...........well done that man, ports look HUGE and ceramic coating, interesting, are we likely to see some dynos prior to RS11? Come on what Turbo, have you given in to some form of IC?
MORE INFO PAHLEESE:wave
Looking sweet, can\'t wait the see that baby fly up the strip:bandit
Is it me or are there combustion and water seal groves in the 12a sideplate you\'ve just ported? thought the 12a\'s had the grooves in the rotor housings:confused:
Ta,
Paul:)
Hi Tim,
Glad to see some people are not secretive about there work.
Did you manage to get your rotor housings ground for a little clearance?
Looks your next restriction is going to be that tiny little 12a turbo inlet manifold. Do i feel a custom built LARGE one coming????
Regards
Tony

If you look at the rotor housings you will see there are grooves in them, I think you might find the end plates may be 13B but its just a rumour.
Tim,
Do you put an o ring in each or do you just leave one groove empty?
Nice Work Tim, Hope she flys:)
Sweet one Tim, Im really warming to the old school. Roll on May.
Tim surely you realise you cant poilsh a turd :rollin
Workmanship on the porting looks spot on! Who did it for you?:rollin

You reckon Tim shouldve done the decent thing and broken it like you have yours mate!? :rollin
Whens it going to be ready Tim - you know what you said last week, not far away!
So Tim, when are you putting on the stickers I sent you :D :D You know the ones..... :D
Engine looks awesome by the way

Turbo is a GT42 ball bearing one.Manifold is divided, which apparently is a good thing. No intercooler,I have water injection.
Should see the dyno before rotorstock.
Rotor housings were ground to spec,so now my rotors fit.I just hope the coating stays on.
More pictures soon.Expected RWHP? Secret! :)

Is that with or without apex seals? :rollin
The ports look nice very similar to mine.:D
Wooo Hoooo it\'s built! Looks like it should be going in the car this weekend. Brian... it looks nothing like yours... it hasn\'t got a siv to catch the Apex seals!
Now all it needs is the \'go faster\' stickers eh matt ;) :D
I\'m sure the stickers will accidently be stuck to my elbow when I lean on Tim\'s car next... MMMWWHHHAHAHAHAH
Engine is in! Here is a picture of the manifold and downpipe.
Woooooooooooooo Hoooooooooo! Can\'t wait to see it on Monday! You never know, it might even be running by the end of the week.:D
All this licking Matt ain\'t gonna get you a pay rise you know!!
Anyway ain\'t it past your bedtime?
See you Monday for some more banter:D
If it rains tomorrow, you should be banned from Dorset! Think happy thoughts (no compression tests tomorrow!) and this time you might not bring the rain with you! :D See you in the morning... or after you\'ve had to sort something out and turn up late. :rollin
thats going to be some very warm steering box oil :D
Is that a standard 1st gen gearbox too ?
its looking interesting, I look forward to seeing it at RS2 (other tuners please take note and post more engine photos :D )
It is a TII gearbox.Maybe I need a steering box oil cooler.:)
Turbo is now on.One step closer!
pah that\'s nothing you wana see my purple thing:

Si (yeah yeah OK it was drink related & isn\'t as big & clever as Tim Tims baby)
Hi Tim, was there any hassle mating the turbo II box to the 12a? also would you mind me asking what clutch you are running?
Sorry for all the questions but is that also a turboII throttle body welded onto the stock manifold?
It looks great by the way.
Cheers, for any help. If I am being to nosy just tell me my place. thanks, michael.
PS is it trick photography or did you nick that mahoosive

tubby off a lorry or sumin
Looking good ya nutter......

Gearbox bolts straight on,starter has to be modified to fit.Clutch is a 6 puck solid centre plate on an EGI flywheel.TII throttle body is bolted on.I did consider welding it!
That\'s not a turbo\'d engine, it\'s a engine\'d turbo, if you know what I mean ;)
Looks scary but impressive mate, keep the pictures coming.
Cheers
Jon
Cheers Tim.
Scooby...as ever you are one disturbed cookie:D
What diff is i the back Tim? I wouldnt think a stock first gen would cope to happily with the expected launches.
This car has no 1st gen parts fitted anymore. So it can longer be classified as a 1st gen. Oh please bite Tim where are you ??
no doubt under the hood of your pruple hybrid.:D
Your right Brian, to me it looked like an FD with a 1st gen body :D He did a good job with that engraving tool on the housings to change the \'13b\' to \'12a\' though dont you think? :D
You purple boys eh... ...what will we do with you. :D

The only FD parts are the ignition coils and leads, and a Greddy intake elbow.Definitely a 1st gen, just slightly modified. :)

haha I knew you would bite eventually:D
What about the fc parts
It has some nice Turbo 2 end plates though!
Bigger inlet port runners than 12a stockies.
still has 12a rotor housing\'s though.
Great job Tim.
regards
Carl
I would hope it has 12a rotors as well
Yes,it has 12A rotors! Here is a pic of the modified inlet manifold with extra injector holes, beside a stock one.
Is it running yet???????:D mine might soon ish
Here is a pic of the engine, ready to run.
It runs.:D .Engine is very smooth at 1500 rpm, anything below it goes Brap,Brap, and the car rocks from side to side.Done 30 miles,it seems to boost very easily, even on part throttle.Next job is to tidy the wiring, honest! Here is a pic of the modified bonnet, with the help of an angle grinder.
cool ... I think your fan shrunk in the wash though :D
I suppose the vent is purely to cool the elbow and nothing to do with it not fitting!
its a stealth intercooler ... sneaky eh :D
brap brap brap...................... is that a technical term?, it sounds like you may slipped a little bridge in there without us knowing! If its just a streetport, why does it brap?
I don\'t really need a fan, that radiator is amazing, hot at top,and very cold at bottom.
Hole is so bonnet would shut, cooling is a bonus.:)
brap brap = bridge port :D
brap brap = overlap ... either that or my mates Lada has a bridgeport and not a group A cam :D
I was pretty sure a large extend port would have a lope to the idle similar to a bridge ported engine
That turbo is huggggeee!!! cant wait to see it run at Rotorstock
oops....... looks like my turbo II is gonna go Brap brap then:eek:
Could you not of hammered a nice power bulge in to the bonnet instead of cutting the discreate air hole...
I\'m sure if he had slammed the bonnet shut hard enough it would have fitted ...
Done 75 miles now,all is well.Air flow must be much more,as everywhere it is lean A/F\'s.I have so far put in 15% more fuel, and it wants more.Easy on a \'Microtech\' ecu, just press the button til it says 15%,try that on an Apexi!
Been stopped by the police already,he thought it was rather loud,so I said it wasn\'t broken, and is fine. The car didn\'t start for him to hear it when he asked, something to do with that plug I pulled from the ecu. :D
Does anyone Know the legal noise limit? Antinuk?
Hi Tim,
You know that isnt my specialised area, but from memory, as long as there a no holes its ok for a roadside tug, not sure if there is a decibel limit for mot\'s either. I know there is for SVA but that wont effect you. As long as you have a silencer and no holes you should be ok.
Does it still go Brap Brap?
1. The vehicle shall be fitted with an exhaust system including a silencer such that the exhaust gases shall not escape into the atmosphere without first passing through the silencer.
2. When -
(a) the vehicle is held stationary on a level surface such that there is an unobstructed area not less than 3 metres wide all around the vehicle; and
(b) the engine by which the vehicle is propelled is run at a constant rotational speed of 3/4 S, the noise measured at 0.5 metres from the exhaust outlet at 45 degrees to the axis of the outlet pipe in a horizontal plane, shall not exceed 101db(A).
I think thats the SVA limits but you are welcome to search the HMSO site for yourself as it will also be in the construction and use regulations somewhere and I\'m pretty sure the SVA test will be based on those regulations anyway
http://www.hmso.gov.uk/
thats what the sva guide says, they checked it when i sva\'d my kit car but there is no road side test for it.
Exhaust noise is subjective to the policeman or the MOT tester at the time. The MOT book simply says it must be at an appropriate level for the car. I think if a Policeman (correct me if I\'m wrong) deems your exhaust to be excessive they can ask you to get it changed, in much the way as if your number plate is dodgy.
With number plates there are specific measurements that need to be adheared to, with exhausts there is no way of telling how loud something is without the correct measuring equipment. Without a specific measurement an officer would look a bit silly in court trying to explain to the judge that it was too loud.
Hi, I did a little research on this matter too. My interpretation on the matter is that basically there are no noise level limits for normal road cars. As long as the exhaust pipe has not been modified after its been manufactured to make it louder, then you\'re within the law. So if you buy a straight through pipe from a supplier/manufacturer it doesn\'t matter how loud it is... as long as you dont alter it to make it louder.
as long as its E marked
Can I just write an \'E\' on it in marker? :D
Yes sorry, forgot about that bit.
Must say since I had the external wastegate put on the car a few coppers have turned and looked at the car - hopefully it was to look at rather than want to gimme an earful!!
It\'s great fun passing cars as the noise reverberates off them lol!!:D
Yours must be extremly loud Tim!!!;)
Simon,
I think you\'re almost correct in your thinking but the interpretation would be that you are not allowed to modify a cars standard exhaust system in anyway that would make it more noisy. Changing to a peformance exhaust would be OK as long as it as loud or quieter than a standard exhaust system.
I still think that the limit of 101Db(A) would stand in court ... its the limit stage rally cars (must have an MOT) are checked at
QuoteMust say since I had the external wastegate put on the car a few coppers have turned and looked at the car - hopefully it was to look at rather than want to gimme an earful!!
So, Ben, does this mean you have a single now?
regards
Tony
Thanks for all the info. It is loud, but there are louder FD\'s driving around.Done over 100 miles, has made 1.1 bar boost at 5000 rpm,no more, still running it in.
Yes ( he says with a big :D )
Although funds are pretty tight and my gearbox is getting notchy! What timing!!
Corr your brave Tim going up to 5 grand with boost when running in!;)
It\'s an absolute monster! I was following Tim down the road after work today and felt physically sick! The fumes and the rumble were too much, I felt like a right tart backing off a few meters! Can\'t wait for Tim to put the passenger seat back in!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

That\'s because you are a right tart Matt.
I would of thoguht after all the abuse I gave you eysterday you would of got the message by now. tut
Tims car does sound fantastic at tickover but he\'s still gonna get his arse whooped.
Abuse? you ain\'t seen nothing yet... Mr "I can\'t find my nuts" Ellis:D
Went to Reworx today to tune my car ready for Rotorstock.Made 349rwhp and would have made loads more, but the apex seals decided to rip up the ceramic coated housings.
I now have 4.6 bar compression, which is crap,so engine is coming apart:(
Still breaks traction in 2nd,and spins the wheels all the way to 9000rpm,But that\'s what I want in 4th.
Doh, what apex seals are you using ? are you using the Cermet B coated housings ... same coating as on the R26B ?
Sorry to hear of the probs Tim, having heard the whole sorry story from start to finish I do feel for you :(
Best of luck getting her in and out again and ship-shape for the weekend. Oh, and if u get her finished up with time to spare we could do with a hand! :rollin
Was looking forward to seeing her on the dyno too :(

There probably isnt a MOT station with sound checking equipment, my last imp with a full race 998 & 18" straight thru exhaust needed earplugs to drive anywhere, The mot tester did comment on the noise but said he couldnt fail it for noise but put a note on the MOT sheet basically saying it needed looked at
All running again,no ceramic this time.Done 20 miles,feels stronger than before.Rotorstock it is.Alledgedly Brian Ellis has 478rwhp,should be a good race.:D

Aren\'t you the lucky one. Haveing a time to leave your place off work enforced by your neighers. just after one and i am home the question is to sleep or not to sleep?
Not much point CJR - I better pack now :)
\'Red\' car 60 miles nearer to Avon Park, bit down on power due to stupid time scale of getting it back together :( but dog box is the most awesome bit of kit :D :D :D
Altho I cant actually hear any thing atm...
Really Excellent news Tim, see u tomorrow :wave
Hi sorry for digging up an old post although seeing as how this car is now running super quick I reckon it is quite relevant. I am using a turbo II throttle boby on the morris minor and after having a good look at it last night I was wondering/hoping that there might be a fair bit of stuff that could be removed to de-clutter it. The pair of really slow to open butterflies....can they be removed? I have been looking as much as I can to the pics of your throttle body set up but cant quite make it out, i.e what you have removed.
any advice would be great, but if they are all trade secrets then fair due.
cheers, michael.
Also might be kinda cool to move this thread to the 1st gen section? possibly, although any possible throttle body mods for more power might be welcomed by the 2nd gen brigade also I guess.
You can remove the extra butterflies, and the shaft, then weld up the holes where the shaft was.I have a single throttle position sensor, which simplified the linkage a lot.The throttle dampers have gone.
The purple peril now has an RX8 gearbox,6 speed,an OS giken twin plate clutch,FD propshaft uj\'s,FD diff flange, and standard diff, with egi LSD,and I am running smaller diameter drag tyres.
Going to SCR on Saturday to do a 10 second run, before Mr 10 second Ellis does.:rollin
Shakespear this coming Saturday ??????? the 28 Oct ????????:wiggle
Yes,do come along, should be quite a few there.
I will be there Tim,thank you squire.....what time you getting there ?
Awesome, cheers for that Tim, hope the weekend was good to you at the track.
cheers, michael.

Are you trying to get a part in Eastenders or something?
:Talking1
Tim what kind of throttle position sensor do you use? Do you sell them?
Let us know when you have time. Oh and how fast was it on the weekend?????????
cheers, michael.
Hi Tim,
I\'ve been interested in your intercooler free set-up for a while, just wondering whether your WI is pre turbo or post, and what sort of air temps your seeing?
I can answer a little bit for tim here I think, intercooler free is a BAD idea imho, tim has been seeing 150o intake temperatures :) I am sure an air cooler of some description is his next mod, im hoping it will be matt strapped onto the bonnet blowing on the turbo piping. :D
Quote from: A7NTYI am sure an air cooler of some description is his next mod, im hoping it will be matt strapped onto the bonnet blowing on the turbo piping. :D
I think he likes to reserve Matts energy for blowing something else.
LOL. :spank
Quote from: DRAGONI think he likes to reserve Matts energy for blowing something else.
Inspired!:)
The only thing I\'ll blow is my motor...
150....lol, rather toasty then :) Would be interested to see how a pre turbo set-up would affect the temps, thats if it aint already
Its was something I was thinking about playing around with a while back, but have since been convinced otherwise, on the look out for an efficient air cooler solution. Im looking to get the most out of the twins so need something will a small pressure drop, ASP/M2 intercooler is tempting, was also thinking CC but worried about their performance on the track
