Title: 255\'s on a 8" rim?????
Post by: not so furious on April 20, 2005, 02:45:34 PM
I know that rear 17" rims are supposed to be 8.5 inches width with 255 tyres but very few alloys are available in 17 x 8.5

Does anyone run 255\'s on 17 x 8" and if so any problems?

Cheers

Why not just put 235/45R17\'s like the front?

will this give enough grip....all the power through the rears i thought the wider the better?

Does anyone have 235\'s on the back?

A smaller better fitting tyre will perform better than a tyre that is too big.

Standard tyres arnt that wide iirc so it will be fine.

And ill be running 235\'s on the rear next time I get new tyres on a 9 inch rim.

Sounds like you dont have the wheels yet though?  A 17x8 with probably a relatively high offset isnt likely to fill the arches very well.

your\'e right, i dont have the wheels. Currently have the OEM 16" jobs and really fancy Mille Miglia EV-R\'s in 17". Maybe I should just go 235\'s all round then?

Anyone have anything else to recommend?

I\'ve just gone from 235/45 R17 rears to 255/40 R17\'s on a 9" rim and the garage reckoned it is near the limit for the rim. They are Goodyear Eagle F1\'s and compared to the old knackered Kuhmo tyres it has transformed the ride of  the car -Fantastic! :
