I am having a bit of trouble with my idle. The only way I can describe it is to say that it keeps pulsating. Engine starts fine and then begins to hunt/pulsate on average every 2 seconds. When it\'s been running a few mins and warmed up, the pulsating is less frequent but still there. I\'m after any clues if anyone may know what causes this?
Thanks,
Mark.
What model,FD yeah?Has anyone worked on it lately? Its hunting, revs going up and down?Could be TPS switch or air leak, need to get it checked over bud.
As Gary says - had any thing apart recently? air leak sounds quite likely? Is the car on the stock ECU?
Sorry, yeah it\'s an FD 92 Type R.
It\'s had a rebuild in Japan before it got over here, I just picked it up today It is still on the stock ECU too. I was going to borrow another stock ECU from a friend and see if that made any difference. Just need a few pointers where to start really!! Would a vaccum pipe being off make it pulsate like that or is it more likely to be something electronic?
Mark.
vac leaks can and will cause pulsating and can be a pig to find check all vac pipes first(think there are loads on a twin turbo)..after that my advice wld be to book it in with one of the experts closest to u.it will save u loads of time and effort.carl hayward is in reading area i think/re worx in portsmouth/wgt in cheshire/

I had that too before i took my FD to my brothers for him to work on. It was idling at 2000 rpm - once that was lowered it was hunting badly. With some tweaking, etc, etc we finally managed to get the idle really smooth. It\'s really nice now - a bit faster than its meant to be (900-1100rpm) but very smooth.
I can\'t remember exactly what was wrong, but one of the items that needed replacing was the vacuum hose for the power brakes - the one way valve had broken and allowed air to flow both ways. Might be worth checking that.
We also sprayed some carb cleaner down the hole used by the idle vavle at the throttle body - might be worth having a go at doing that.
Funny you mention your brakes too, the ABS light is on and the brake pedal is really spongey. I have taken the brake vacuum pipe off and blocked the hole but the hunting continues to happen. I read a lot on the rx7club.com site and it sounds like I have 2 problems, one being a vacuum leak and the brakes being a seperate problem. If anyone knows of anything linking the two faults then this would be handy to know!
They also recommend spraying a fine mist of water around the vacuum pipes, if the revs increase, the water is being sucked in. Has anyone tried this?
Thanks again,
Mark.
