Hi
Im looking at possibly getting an RX7 later this year, I am interested in the revised range that were produced from 99-02, especially the spirit-r typa a, but with the import laws in place how could i get hold of one???
If its impossible to get hold of/import the later RX7\'s, with a boudget of 15-20k which would be the highest spec/top end model to look for. I\'d be after a fairly standard, low mileage, 2 seater RX7.
Cheers
You wouldnt be able to import a late one now as things stand.
There are however a couple of Spirit R\'s in the country - you may get lucky with one of those...
There are also a fair few post-98 FD\'s floating about the UK for sure...
Yeah i just got a 99 spec they\'re about just very rare. Looking on autotrader there is a 2001 car with 7,000 miles, and Dragon Performance appear to be selling a blue 99 spec?? Not heard a mention of that on here, would of thought it would of been though

Oi....hands off!! ;) :D
Just seen a Spirit R go on Flea Bay. Can you believe it.
SO is the reason we can\'t import post 1997 RX 7\'s because there is no model report for them?
How much is it to get one of these done? someone from RX heaven posted something about it a few months ago if I remember right.
Ciao :p
I am selling a 99 spec Rx for only 13k if anyone interested.
Tell us more! Your site has a 99 at £16,995 so presumably it\'s not that.

If it was same one I saw earlier this week, it only said Spirit R in the title. The car itself was described as a Type R or Bathhurst, if my failing memory serves me well!
(Some of the pics looked a bit odd to, almost like a model? Unless it had been photoshopped etc!)

General opinion from what I\'ve read, is that it is VERY expensive to organise the model report. Emmisions is one of the biggest headaches, apparently. This caption off a post on FDUK recently:
Manufacturers basically had a choice between making their emissions good for Japan & Europe or just giving up on Euro sales. Many cars, like the Evos/Scoobys, were destined for Europe so they were made pretty much the same for both markets.
In the case of RX-7 and Supra, Mazda and Toyota gave up and just flogged the remaining cars to the domestic market. Getting these cars compliant for the global market was over budget considering the poor sales.
You\'ll see RX-8s are much easier to import as they were made to comply with global emissions.
£12k will buy you a V plate RX7. With recent rebuild.
Rgds.
Spoke to Nigek from RX Heaven at Brooklands, he is trying to get the report done, but was having emissions prob\'s at the time.

this one definitely claimed to be a spirit R. Whether it was or not I couldn\'t say.
I\'d sell my soul for a Spirit R

I also seem to remember from one of his early posts that they were working on a FD3s4***** (whats that, 96-98?). And they hoped that if they ever got it approved, then there may be some way of linking it to FD3s5***** and FD3s6***** models (i.e. 99-00 and 00-02 respectively). So even if they get the 4***** through the report, there was, at the time (things may have changed?) no guarentee it could be used for 99-on FDs!

Was it white?
can;t remember to be honest, I only saw it once and when I tried to go back to it, the seller had removed it because it was no longer available, so no second look for me.
Yea, I can\'t find it now either....under current or finished searches. Obviously removed. But it must be the same one....reckon the seller had only used the phrase Spirit to get attention. The car wasn\'t an actual Spirit.
They do come up reasonably regularly at some Jap auctions, so you could buy one.....just not use in this country! Any excuse for a bit of globe trotting!!:D (Sorry luv, just popping out for a spin in the car.....back in 2 weeks!)
Just read this on Newera\'s website....
QuoteIf owners of Imports in UK see there is no report available for their car, but would like to help make it possible to import such cars, please view //www.modelreportsdirect.com & //www.modelreports.com - All you\'ll need to do is supply them with a mechanically standard car already in the UK, - for a model report to be prepared. It\'s FREE!
They\'ll own the model report, although the car\'s supplier will have access to the report for which their car was used - free of charge. The more model reports available, the better for all Jap car enthusiasts.
Any one of you 3 Spirits want to volenteer(sp?)!!! :god :D

Not going to be easy on a late FD I dont think...people have been messing about with MR\'s for the 96-98 cars without much success I believe.
Dam shame - I shouldn\'t be dissapointed though - like I could afford one anyway! :rollin
You can get a spirit R if you got plenty of cash to spare but TBH whats the point.
Scott
Of course there is another way that one of the good chaps on Skyline Owners Club has enquired about with VOSA. You buy the car in Japan, completely strip it down to just a shell and a heap of parts, import it in a box, and photograph each step of your re-assembly efforts in the UK. You can then legally SVA and register it as an amateur built vehicle. No model report required and different emissions requirements.
Thats a fair amount of work though!
Oh I\'d love a mint last edition Spirit R, who has the newest FD in the UK then?

Each to their own, of course! I personally like the thought of owning one of the very last RX7s, after, what, 24years in production. Granted, it is an FD, but its still a bit of "history".

Assuming the Spirit badges are truely sequential (don\'t actually know if they are, but it would make sense!), then Andrew\'s of Jimmys is quite a late number!
