the trouble with high milers is all the silly things you dont think about wear out. if its had a new engine is it the same one recon\'ed three times or a complete new engine.. my brother inlaw has a high mile bmw m5. the car looks good and he has a wad of bills saying little bits of this and that have been replaced. mostly suspension parts.

these add up to thousands of pounds so if your serious about the car check it out very very carfully. jack it up and check for play in all directions of the suspension. drive it and listen for donks and clonks. now a days cars are comonly doing 200,000 so i would say everything should still be servicable, so if the engine is sound you should still get some happy motoring in. ask to see all the old bills and you can get an idea how well its been looked after.

Hi All,

I\'m having a concern about a high milage car. The car i have seen is perfect in everyway, and i mean everyway, except that it has 140k miles on the clock. All the running gear, suspension, brakes etc are in tip top condition and the car is flawless, the history and owner are perfect. What can i expect to get for a car which will have nearly 200k miles on the clock when i come to selling up?? (Assuming its in the same condition)

Thanks

Matt

My honest answer would be not a lot.  It would be a really uncommon mileage for an FD, and if it were me buying then Id probably not come to even look at the car.

Still that depends, if it had brand new engine etc I could be tempted.  But I still think I wouldnt go for it.

Thats my opinion, I think its really an individual thing.

Suspension bushes would definetly need changing, shock absorbers would of taken a battering for that amount of miles gearbox box vacuum lines turbo\'s. etc etc

its upsetting, this is the only problem with the car, it just the selling-on thats the problem, i wouldn\'t mind the maintenance issues. i think the car is worth the extra bushes etc costs

im sure there is a fd for sale on this site for about 5 grand.

. it is true that when you go to sell it, a high miler isnt going to be easy to shift but if you got it for 3 to 4 grand would it matter ?
