Title: a mixed day on the WGT Dyna Pack
Post by: Oedipus Rex on April 11, 2005, 09:14:35 PM
well today was a mixed day for me really. Got some nice new shinies. Apexi airfilters and major intercooler, which is great.

Had a compression test done and the lowest reading was an 8.2, which is also great.

Got on the Dyno at the end of the day and read an 317.8 at the wheels, which was absolutely great too. Considering I was running at 0.7 boost.

Now the down side, well minor downside anyhow. Car was running WELL lean at high boost, so until I can get even more readies together to sort the fueling, I have to keep the baby running at .7 boost, so she\'s actually slower than when I took her, although at least I\'m aware of the issue, better safe than sorry.

It\'s also boost creeping at higher revs, the Power FC can\'t keep it down, so until I fit a boost controller, Pip has advised me to keep it to 5500 revs and below so as to not run lean !!!!

BAH HUMBUG.

gone away spent a fortune and come back with a slower car, how crap is that?

A big thanks to Pip for all the hard work and dyno work, it\'s good to know about this problems. Pips parting words were, you\'ve got a great engine there and there\'s a hell of a lot more to come from it, lets just play safe and keep it that way, payience will reward you well.

Anyhow here\'s a couple of pics for you to enjoy / endure

it is mate and it\'s doing a great job too. If you put your hand on the intake pipe and your hand on the outlet pipe, you can feel a huge difference in the temperature.

intercooler kit comes in at £250

Nearly 320 at the wheels eh? Crikey moses that\'s not bad! And good compression too, how many miles are on your motor? Did you find out what the crazy noises were after?

yeah it was just a loose clip. Couldn\'t see the bugger because it was hiding under the air box, which I couldn\'t be arsed taking off because I knew I was getting those Apexis fitted.

Well happy with the power, considering I\'m on stock twins.  :D

cars got roughly 70k on the clock, hard to say exactly because it\'s a mix of km and m. It had a rebuild about 3 1/2 years ago but it wasn\'t modified as carefully as it could have been before I got it, it was ported with a stock ECU so had been running lean for a long time. Had a couple of major boost cuts just after I got it too, so I\'m thanking my lucky stars that it\'s all good. Pressure tested coolant system about a month ago too, which came up rosy.

All in all I\'m a very happy bunny today, with a little patience and plenty of cash, I should have quite a while of good motoring out of that car.

inded, having said that I\'m actually slightly lying, because it creeped to almost .8, even though it was set to .7 so I guess it was more like 317 at .77 bar. You can thank your mate John for me for what has turned out to be, after a few teething troubles, a really great motor.

The whole kit if only £250? inc vat? if so, that\'s a very good price  and would mean  i don\'t have to make my own:)

Anyway very good figures, but surely that value is at the hubs not wheels?

Ta,

Paul

I know, however it\'s reading from the hubs according to Pip, if you have a look at the other WGT Dyno thread you\'ll see the same thing. It also says it\'s a 4 wheel drive vehicle!!!

Excellent mate!:)

Had a look at your graphs and it\'s really interesting to see how your top end power delivery differs from mine with your ported engine.

You now know exactly where you are with the car so when the fueling and boost delivery at the top end are sorted you should have a very quick RX-7!

indeed, it was great to watch it scream on there. The first run had a boost leak, which is why the torque drops off so much at the top. After the boost leak was sorted she just kept rising and rising until the redline, which is excellent. Just can\'t wait to get the fueling sorted so I can get a bar of boost out of it and see what the results are then.

looking a bit closer you can see that your\'s is more torquey than mine, particularly up to 3000 revs and just after the second turbo kicks in. I guess thats got to be because you had your boost set higher than mine.  So where was your boost at?.

Boost on mine is set at 0.85bar,the porting looks like it lets the engine breath alot better at the top end and power is made higher up the rev range.Peak power on mine with a stock engine is at 5900rpm.

Interesting stuff!

I\'ve also got a downpipe and 3" straight through exhaust system so it really is breathing very freely.
