Can someone please tell me if a Jap RX-7 twin turbo FD3S (92) has a "Servo unit fitted"? Also, what IS a servo unit?!? I have been asked this by my insurers Adrian Flux (great guys - strange questions!). They also want to know the Radial/Cross Size of my tyres even though they know I have 17" rims - any ideas why?
Cheers :D
SORRY! Should have put: Is there a Servo Unit fitted to the brakes?
Doesnt anyone know know if the early FD3S had a Servo unit in its brake setup?
Glad its not just me then! ;) :rollin
The brakes are servo assisted by vacuum. Thats why you have a pipe going from the inlet manifold to the black drum on the brake master cylinder. So yes i the brakes have a servo unit. That sounds like a very strange question for an insurance company...?

Sorry, forgot to say what it is..
Its a bit more complicated than this but here is a basic explanation..
The pedal pressure required to bring a car to a stop is quite a lot, so that braking is a comfortable affair the vacuum from the manifold is used to help with the operation of the brake pedal, this is done progressively, basically the harder you push the pedal, the more this unit helps you. Its all done with diaphrams and springs and things but its a bit long winded to explain...
Im not aware of a production vehicle in the last 20-30 years that isnt servo assisted, no doubt someone will know of one though.. :D

Thanks Donato for putting that all up.
Yeah, thanks Donato. Thats very kind. I\'m just filling out my insurance now. I can\'t understand why they would want to know if it has servo units tho? Very odd.
Cheers again! :)
No probs.
It is a very strange question from an insurance company..
You can also tell them that it has
suspension
4 wheels
a stereo
and a windscreen, will save them asking... ;)
Cheers
