Just found 2 rust holes in that TII, covered up by Mr.Bodger so I could\'nt see them when I was buying :reallymad
So thats about 2ft of welding I\'ll have to do on the drivers side floor pan. No rust anywhere else though.
So, whats the rust situation for the rest of us?
I\'ve jet to see a T2 that has not got any holes in! my too have had the Floor pan to sills welded up. (Not a nice job):(
My red Coupe had 9 holes in the floor that was just a knightmare. The Vert had three but that was worse to repaine as the floor has extra renforcing.
Sounds like you have one of the better ones.
Chris
This all sounds too familiar. I have also just finished banishing rust from my cabriolet. Carbriolets can be a unque pain in the butt as they suffer from small tears in the hoods just behind the rain pockets. Water slowly seeps in over time and before you know it the area just in front of the wheel arches starts to rust from the INSIDE. This means that by the time you see a small bubble in the paint work the panel is already pretty rotten.
Still, thankfully Halfords has plenty of body filler....
I dont understand why the TII\'s and Cabs rust so badly (well cabs with a leak are understanadble), The Egi\'s I\'ve seen are no way near as bad on the rust. They go around the rear arches, where it joins the sill, but I\'ve never seen one with floor pan rust.
None at all.... until the prang!! Not bad for a 17 year old car, left to rot fo 5 years.
John
And you will still have none;)
tha cars are well old now. i dont think there that bad compared to other stuff ( vw audi are the exeption )
I had a D reg Celica a few years back. I still shudder at the amount of rust that was there........
My hole ****ing car is riddled with the stuff.
lol
Is that esp for me :)
put it this way 20 plates did the job :)
had to weld the inside and out on both side - front to back and the spare wheel well
I gave you two options Stu, depending on wether or not it passed the MOT! ;)
yeah thanks matey
you found a strut brace yet ??? ( oohh handbags at dawn - or a 1/4 mile run at RS :) )
1/4 at RS? Okay, we\'ll do it on foot though. Much funnier!!! :rollin
(The TII wont even be run in by RS, and I wont risk a car I\'m selling on the strip)
Got my eye on a few strut braces, not in a busting rush to get one yet though.
In a busting rush for a TII water pump. MAzda UK has none left in stock!!! Upto 4 weeks for delivery!!!
4 weeks - ekk thats scary
and the strip - only jesting matey - to be honest - i probably wont be running up and down it :( ( well OK up it - down would be dangerous !! )
has the usual suspects not got one ?? ( pip , ross , etc... )
failing that - there was a guy breaking a tII on here - he might have one ??
have a search thru the for sale section
Am going to phone the specialists today. Just hope they have some in stock, otherwise the TII will be on hold for awhile :(
its a guy off here called : ROB..RX7UKFD
I\'ve only got a little bit of rust bubbling thru over the n/s rear wheel, have had a good prod underneath but it seems pretty sound...
My Mini on the onther hand is more rust than paint... I know your pain Grinder, I\'ve been chasing rust on the Mini for a year now, and still havn\'t got it all fixed up!
Will
:reallymad Wank! That\'ll be the passenger side too...........
Maybe I should add another option to the poll....rotten as a turd.....
my god i know what you guys mean, first of all i thought it was just a couple of holes but the whole lot is crumbling away! can you get a new sills for them? what about floor pans? is that gonna be a custom job too? patching and patching is gonna be difficult and time consuming, i would rather cut out the whole panel and then re weld a new bit in???
None that I know of on my 1900 TII Silver/Grey Cab !
The best thing to do is to weld in a 3mm plate.
ok cool.
i got most of the bits i need for it, just the welding job to tackle. i plan on doin most of the work on this motor myself. however i have never welded anything before! i seen it being done so i kinda got an idea.
Brett seen the job you did on yours and it was impressive! i will read up on the net (find an ebook) before i start and have a practise go first!
any particular areas i will need to have a look eg. any hidden rusty areas?
I will put some pics up of the holes i found / made!
