Title: WGT Dynopack
Post by: JamesFD3 on April 09, 2005, 06:05:47 PM
Just collected my car from WGT.

Looking at the Dyno sheet I thought 291bhp at the flywheel was pretty good until Pip quickly corrected me that this was an at the wheels figure and needs to be corrected for a flywheel figure so I\'m pretty chuffed.:)

Not bad for the original 64000 mile engine!

Many thanks once again to Pip and Dave for a top quality job.

New large intercooler seems to be working really well plus the usual stuff really,Apexi ECU,HKS intakes.Although the engine is still original the turbos have been changed at some point and I\'m not sure what spec they are. Will have too do some digging on that one!

Yup,happy with that James! has stripped interior,no stereo and speakers etc, lightweight Recaros and full cage, aircon and airpump etc have been removed plus loads of other bits removed to save weight so it goes really well for the power.Don\'t need them anyway as the car only gets thrashed around tracks:D

Yup - Dynopack is working fine,Dave said they had a few minor teething problems when it first went in but it\'s fine now.

Very impressed with this kit, allows for very accurate tuning. It feels very quick from 4000rpm compared to before, the boost graphs showed the boost was fluctuating on the second turbo caused by the wastegate,a few tweaks and the final plot shows the boost delivery is very smooth and linear and the power feels very strong now.

Cheers Dan! spent loads on it over the winter, intercooler,RAYS bumper etc.

290 * 1.18 = 342.2

That was a good guess by me then :D

18% transmission loss then?

Dan!!

surely if it\'s 18% loss you should divide by 82 then multiply by 100 to get what it is at fly so 354+ ponies?
Si (dunno about the power stuff but i am a statistics freak )

Either way, I dont think the \'18%\' loss is much to go by. The 18% loss that gets banded about was determined from the FDUK rolling road day on a Dyno Dynamics chassis dyno back in 2002(?) by looking at 2 stock RX7\'s and comparing their measured wheel output with what their manufacturers FWHP was quoted as being. Also, the hub figure is going to reflect less drivetrain loss than the wheel figure - a big lump of metal and rubber takes some turning!

you\'re probably right, statisitcs is not my strong point it must be said.

Saw your car on Friday James, looking good buddy.
I was up at Pips all day on Friday having a load of work done. A big thanks to Pip and Dave for all your help.
What a place to break down, literally 30 yards from Pips door.

Anyway main reason for my post is talking to Dave they think their Dynopack is reading figures lower than what they should be. Apparently cars they\'ve put on their old setup are now recording lower figures on the Dynopack.

Mine seemed to follow this trend. If you remeber I got 286bhp at the Nobles RR day. Since then I\'ve had it decatted, downpipes, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump and Apexi ecu fitted. All mapped properley by Pip and now putting out 297bhp.

Rich :)

Thanks Rich,is that a flywheel figure or at the wheels?

I\'ve never been a fan of traditional rolling roads but these hub Dynos are the way forward, closest thing to an engine Dyno without getting too complex.Dave said the same thing, they think it\'s under reading by as much as 20%.Mine actually made more power on the twins than a single turbo they had on a few days before.

Feels a fair bit quicker than my 20B Cosmo did on it\'s fresh engine and the Cossy was no slouch above a tonne!

Sorry for a slightly misleading post.
The Noble day figures were recorded at the flywheel and Pip\'s at the hubs.

That said Dave still thought it was recording lower figures.

I\'m just more impressed with the sound now its got a proper zorst on. Great fun setting car and bus alarms off :rollin

Same ol story different machine-:reallymad Guys these ARE for tuning not pub talk figures:confused: I\'m sure you will find no matter where in the UK / world you go, you will get different numbers, be happy you have a healthy car/ engine THAT  has been tuned by an EXPERT, only way you guys will see who is producing the best figures is all to turn up the same day on the same machine :spank

Hope not Rich!:)

When it eventually goes pop I will get Pip to port the engine and fit a Garrett GT35/40 kit, single is the way to go if you want BIG power.
