Title: Steering Wheel Adjustment
Post by: LeeHall on April 05, 2005, 09:54:37 PM
Hi All,

This might be a silly question from a newbie and appologies if it is!!!
I\'m close to getting my first rotary, its a k plate gen 3. As far as I can tell, everything seems great. The only problem is that I\'m not exactly small, ok, closer to sumo size. The steering wheel seemed quite low, was rubbing against my legs and made it akward getting out. Is there any adjustent on these as neither I or the fella selling could find a catch to releas the steering clomb?  Also, what exactly is an Efini?
oh also, are there any owners in Cornwall (or Devon)? And does anyone know of any rotary sepcialists down in these parts?

Thank you all very much

Lee :wave

Ross @ Dragon performance (link at top of page) is in exeter so not too far from you i guess & i\'m sure there will be some local types for you.....
Efini is just some random jap thing they slap on the rice rockets that are the RX7.
I had a similar kind of issue with the steering wheel when i first tried one & basically no there are no adjustments on the steering wheel i was told that mazda felt it weighed too much which does seem a tad silly but shows how all out the FD (3rd gen RX7) is. I soon found that with a smaller aftermarket steering wheel i had no such issues (or at least not such that it was any problem i still look a bit of a **** getting out of the car lol) Another thing i was going to look at doing was getting either UK seat rails or modify mine so the seats could go all the way back to seats or bins & give a bit more room if that might also assist you?
An idea which may work for you in terms of getting in & out would be to install a detachable steering wheel/column (security measure to boot) imagine it would be far easier if you could do this, a& i know there are well respected brands & models which enable this to be done will dig out links if you need/want them?
Other than that dont be shy there are no silly questions we\'re here to help so dont be shy & welcome :wave

Thanks for the warm welcome and help guys!!!!!!!!

I was talking to a mate last night and he sujested a D shaped wheel, seems like a plan. Also the guy selling the car offered to modify the seat bracket so it goes fully back, might give that a go too. I\'m not very tall, only 5ft 7, but rather \'portly\' lol

Thanks for the idea of the removeable wheel atachment, I seem to remember them now, i think Raid do a snap-on attachment, that would solve the problem, nice one mate!!!:D

Out of interest, what is the seat belt length like on them? I forgot to check this out :(  Is there anyway to extend this if needed?

Thanks again fellas :wave

Any thoughts Si??

Also, I should be picking her up on Sunday :bandit :D :cool  and I\'d like to change the wheel before driving home, any help for removing the standard airbag wheel please? And another one for you all, I\'ve read on here about using 2 stroke oil in the petrol, is this a good idea? The tank on the car is nearly empty, so I\'ll put a little Esso super in and then filling up with Optimax on the trip back. Do I just pour some (any?) 2 strock oil in the fuel filler after the petrol???

Damn, I\'m getting excited about my first RX now!!!!!

I\'m not exactly small, and I manage to squeeze myself in ok, so don\'t give up yet, you may find the seat will adjust enough for you.

Changing the wheel could be tricky, the boss that attaches the steering wheel to the column is difficult to find for wheels such as Momo, although I am sure people have made an MX-5 boss fit with some modifications? Anyone care to comment?

No need to premix, just feed it on Optimax, BP Ultimate, or use an octane booster with regular 95 Unleaded.

Be nice to it, don\'t push it in the wet and learn to enjoy a superb car.

Cheers,

Richard

doh sorry bud had as warned totally forgot (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/dvv/sconf.gif) just been out (good excuse to remind bloke who\'s started parking his 205 infront of my garage to keep it out of harms way from the mad machette man who attacked his car the other week (anyway long & another story) that my fee for having got rid of nutter who then started trying to kill the police with said blade was that i can still get to my car :rollin
Anyway gob shyte mode off hard to be exact in the dark but i reckon it\'s about 90"s in old money for the entire length of belt when it\'s extended which easily touches steering wheel with plenty to spare so you\'d probably need to be as wide as you are tall & need both seats to sit on for it to pose a problem but i await to be proved wrong.....:D
Sorry for delay & hope it\'s of some use

Thanks for all the help again!!!! Its very much appreciated!!!!
I\'ve managed to get a momo wheel (D shaped), boss and going to try the snap-off thingy too. That should do the trick. I\'ll just wait and see about the seat belt (sounds like you\'ve had a VERY interesting few weeks there Si!!!! lol).

Hope to see you about some time Rob. I pop up to Plymouth every so offten to see a mate from SXOC, or if you\'re ever down around Wadebridge, give me a yell mate :D

Once more, thanks again for the help and warm welcome here, will be sending off for membership next week.

hmmmm not me.

i still have a V5/tax issue which until sorted i\'m avoiding driving it, as several people have rightly pointed out that without tax your not technically insured!!

May have been Welsh Dan that you spotted??

Dan was the other suspect, but I didn\'t get to see his registration number, he was moving too fast :D
