No crazy subject headers this time - following all the helpful posts, I\'ve bought myself a second hand HKS SSQ - which has an RX7 fitting kit (came off an RX7)
but...
has no instructions...
Can anyone help me?
I\'ll be your bestest friend :)
Their is two different brackets that come with the kit one is for a 92 and the other is for the 96. Heres some photo\'s of the instructions i have that mite help (hope you can read JAP).
another
another.
and again
.
..
last one. hope they help.
Cheers Scott
*TGT runs screaming from the screen*
Seriously though, thanks for going to the effort of posting those up.
But even more seriously - how the hell do I install this BOV?
Do I need a L shaped rubber hose?
I imagined in my land of fairies and chocolate that it would just be a case of removing the stock bov and replacing it with the HKS SSQ...
LOL I dont even recognise where in the engine that second image is from...
 well ive got the hks bit of pipe kicking around some were if you want it?
If your not very mechanical minded it doesnt matter coz this is easy!
Step one; Remove the original BOV from the intake box and cap it off.
Step two; Remove the other end of the BOV (you mite need to take of the intake pipes to do this, also this is were the HKS BOV is connected).
Step three; Theirs a bolt just below the pipe were you removed the BOV end in step two, bolt the bracket to this.
Step four; Connect the hks BOV to the bracket and to the pipe via a 90 elbow.
Step five; Connect the small hose from the hks BOV to the intake manifold.
Step six; reconnect the intake pipes and JOB DONE.
This is bassically it.
Scott
And I\'ve only just finished putting the new filters on :(
Do I need that hose?
Why didnt you use yours?
In picture #4 item 9 the 90 elbow, thats the bit i have that you can have if you want? Dont need it as ive gone single and had to plumb it up to the intake elbow.
Scott
Scott,
You have PM mate.

Scott,
You have PM mate.

Thinking about it you dont need that 90 elbow i sent you, only if you want it to go were it was designed to. Just use your standard pipe for the recirculating valve. You mite need to buy th small bit of pipe which go\'s from the intake manifold to the dump valve/BOV.
Scott
Ahah - now its all coming together.
Do I just tape off the useless end of pipe that used to go into the stock recirc with gaffer tape or something?
Then the small pipe that come out of the top rear of the SSQ is pipe\'d to the intake manifold?
Where would the L-shaped hose go to normally?
What do I disconnect on the intake manifold to reveal where I plug in the small hose?
Cheers Scott,
Rowly
Do I just tape off the useless end of pipe that used to go into the stock recirc with gaffer tape or something?
I wouldnt use tape to blank it off, you dont want that sucked in and through your engine do you!?!?!? untill you find a proper fitting bunk, what about cutting a small bit of pipe and sticking a cork with a clip holding in place or pinch your grandads walking stick and remove the rubber end and bobs your uncle ETC......
Then the small pipe that come out of the top rear of the SSQ is pipe\'d to the intake manifold?
Yes
Where would the L-shaped hose go to normally?
The other end of the recirc pipe is were you would connect the l shaped pipe, but in your case it would be easier to do it this way.
What do I disconnect on the intake manifold to reveal where I plug in the small hose?
They should be 2 nipples on the manifold that are maybe capped off, this is were say you had a boost gauge you\'d connect it up.
Scott
Right I think I\'m there.
God i wish i knew more about fitting dump valves...
Got off the phone with ReWorx, and was told the hose that runs to the top of the standard bov (in the images, hose 15) is connected to the small (4mm) pipe on the back of the SSQ - does this sound right?
If not, its me being a moron, not them being wrong.
ok, now really finally - where would i get a proper bung?
Sorry mate not sure were you\'d get a proper rubber bunk?
plumbers merchants , DIY store , about 30p
Thanks guys :D
My Jerry Springer final thought is only this: Does that hose (listed as no.15 on the jap pics - and has a 6 in the text) come off the standard bov and go into the rear of the HKS?
If this is true, I have everything I need I think...
Not wanting to dampen your enthusiasum, but looking at some of the posts to this thread it might be best to get someone to help with installing your BOV. This is really quite an easy job, but still needs to be done properly. Would all hate to see it end in tears.
Kev
I do have some experience of working on cars, but none on the BOV-front, and I\'d rather ask all the questions now.
So finally - does the small 4mm tube that runs into the stock bov run into the rear of the HKS SSQ?
Or alternatively, if anyone wants beers and TG tickets and lives in West London and would help me for an hour this weekend - I\'d be in your debt.
Rowly
Noone wants to help me? :(
I\'d be happy to drive out to whoever offers?
I just got a good deal on a new one of these, and i got jap instructions, so i just posted on rx7club to see if someone with an english set of instructions could scan them in for me, dont know if i\'ll have any luck, they\'re a funny lot, so i\'ll post them up here for you if i manage to get them
Ryan
Cheers Ryan :)
I hope noone thinks less of me, but I\'ve given up.
I\'m off to ReWorx tomorrow, Jeff is going to put me out of my (and all of your) misery.
Thanks to all who have pm\'d me with advice, I\'m going to be organising a wee something for the club with Clive which I think people will enjoy.
:)
Good thinking mate, i think many would like to see how this works, pics would be nice when its done,
Bob
Save you pennies mate, i just did it and took some pics to try and help you, not entirely sure where you are stuck so ask me if the pictures dont explain themselves!
1) First of all i removed the strut brace, this just makes it easier to get at. Then i removed the ribbed pipe from the airbox, and the pipe from my old dump valve that connected to the engine, leaving it looking like this:
2) Then i unscrewed the screw here and got the bracket with it
(http://members.lycos.co.uk/rybrx7/2.jpg)
3) Bracket:
4) I found it easier to mount the bracket onto the engine first rather than on the valve, also not shown in pic i connected the black rubber bend to the bigger hole.
5) I bolted the valve on, this is very fiddly, but i put some masking tape around the washer and bolt so i didnt drop them, bolted it on, got a wrench under and tightened. Then i connected the rubber bend to the back and tightened and also the vacuum line:
6) Cut the vacuum line and put this plastic bit into it, with the end with the bump facing away from the valve
(http://members.lycos.co.uk/rybrx7/6.jpg)
7) Reconnect everything, put vacuum line end on UIM and your done :)

I dont know how much of a difference this should make but the old rubber hose i removed had a crack in it, and the old valve was a cheap one, but it certainly feels more responsive now!
good pics :)
yes good pics, but i think comparing to the scanned instructions those pics show the other way up 8o/ ??
i suppose you could probably do both? am i correct? (if you had 2 valves of course!)
MuNkAy
yes the blocking pipe should be on the bottom i believe, but i don think it makes a difference as both go into the airbox, but i may be wrong???
Just a quick question is the blocking pipe on the bottom or the top?
i have the lower one blocked with my bov, the car went in to WGT not so long ago with boost prob, tis fixed now and its still the lower one thats blocked off!
ok, well the only thing i have noticed is that it does not dump twist on acceleration is this normal on the SSQV?
