Just bought and fitted twin Apexi air filters for my car - and my girlfriend seemed suitably impressed with my manly car work (and the resultant covering in oil).
However, much to my surprise I cant hear a damn thing over the noise of the NurSpec exhaust.
If I stick my head out the window, I can hear it whoosh a bit...but I look silly, and it messes with my depth perception...
Two questions!
1) How the hell do the filters get air? The stock air box has these two small openings for intake. After the MR2s great big hole at the side, it seems a bit poor... Any mods people can suggest to get more air into the filters? Or is it not worth it on a stock car...
2) Do different aftermarket BOVs make different noises? I know that sounds silly, but I\'ve never owned one before - and don\'t want to just go and buy any old one...
I\'d like a flutter, or whoosh rather than a chirp I think
*TGT gazes off into the distance...*
Oh, and a big thank you to Ben (Initial D) for being on hand (via oil covered mobile phone) to help with all my nonsense - I owe that man a burger at the next meet.
Though still worried that you never had an air pipe to your air pump dude...
My HKS BOV makes a wicked Woosh if thats any good, and i have apexi\'s as well and cant really here them over the HKS exhaust.

If you want to meet up we can compare induction noises somewhere central-ish - my apexi inducton kit is pretty noisy and easily audible ofer the \'zaust. There\'s also the pub meet on the 12th if you\'re in the area.
There are a few things you can do the get more cold air to the filters mainly involving ducting and heat shields in the region around the filters and turbos.
It\'s one of those things though - space is tight until you get rid of the air-pump (which you need until you de-cat). After that space is still tight but less so!
Iain
i always found (and this is on an R so be patient lol)
that stock boxes dont make much sound if at all, when using a cotton or metalic filter, apexi or blitz sus it makes a much better "induction" sound,
I\'ve also got a HKS BOV and you can definatley hear it , regarding getting more air to your filters , obviously cold air feeds , heat shields ect are best but a good quick fix is to rip out the foam down the side of the rad
On my Megane Coupe I actually relocated the air filter right in front of the wheel so it always got a cold air supply , although I have since heard that lengthening the inlet tract can alter the alter the power curve , don\'t know how true this is but I was reading about relocating the air filter on an FD to the spot where the second oil cooler sits on a type R . So if anyone actually knows about this lengthening inlet tract stuff please fill me in , not that I can do it coz I got 2 oil coolers but it would be interesting to know
Thanks for the advice all - who\'da thought just a cat back exhaust could make so much noise!!
Think I\'m gonna get me an aftermarket BOV (which will no doubt mean my chav % will rise) and see what it sounds like then...
Iain - where is the meet on the 12th?
Usual place - Wharf pub out by the Dartford crossing (wrong side of town for you I guess!), 8pm onwards.
