Hi,
Today something happened with my clutch on the way back from Halfords. Was going to change plugs, flush rad and sort out some ducting. :((
When I don\'t press the pedal there is no noise, but when I press down, there is a nasty scraping/metal noise. I have looked about and have read that it could be the pilot bearing, but I am no mechanic so wouldn\'t know. The car does not go into gear easily, especially 1st and 2nd.
An RX garage nearby would be really useful now, but I live in Romford, Essex.
What do you reckon, buy a kit and get to a nearby garage to change, or have someone in the know look at it and see what is wrong? If it is a pilot bearing/throwout bearing, can I only change this to get it working again?
Also, I don\'t want to damage anything further, but can I drive it to the garage or do I NEED to tow it. Towing is a pain!
Thanks.
hi
I had a clutch problem recently was the oposite to you... when I pressed the clutch the noise went away and weith the clutch out there was the noise....
I had a new clutch fitted at dragon, and it seemed to allieviate the noise on the most part but I satill think my gear bearings need doing... whioch I hoped they would pick up when the changed the clutch, I had the exedy organic clutch put in and it seems fine, though not as happy as maybe I should have been...
gonna take it back to rotechniks near reading just off J11 M4 if thats any use to you.... they are very good, if slightly expensive.
new clutch fitted will be no more than 700 quid...
there is also one in gravesend in kent... similar distance the other way I spose...
think they are reworx... not entirely sure...
rice depends on whether you need spigate bearing and or other bits aswell.... best to change whole unit as to just one bit... saves on laboiur ion the long run...
Its the pilot bearing ( also called the spigot shaft bearing). Its a small bearing, but unfortunately, gearbox and clutch have to come off.
It might be prudent to rpelace the clutch seeing as its coming off anyway. Yes, that pushes the cost up, but will save labour cost in the long run.
Oh, and no, you dont need a tow. That bearing only does work when you have the pedal in. So, if you can hook any gear at all, you are not doing any harm while driving with the clutch pedal out.
Possibly your Clutch release bearing..... Yes Box will have to come out etc to get to it....:(
You can pop on over to TDI (http://www.tdi-plc.com/MazdaRX7.html) and let them have a look.
They are pretty close to you and are quite good all round.
Ask for Mark or Nathan........
