Dave\'s car has a wonderful four page "buying guide" article in the Classic car mag that is on the shelf now.
Dave\'s car spent a day at Beaulieu motor museum\'s special car studio for the shoot, and this shows with the quality of the photography.
Along with Dave, Pip of WGT, Tim of RXmotors and myself all got involved with putting the text together for the Mag, MazdarotaryClub itself has received some brilliant PR via this article as well with Dave promoting the club admirably.
Thanks go to Dave for keeping his car in such excellent condition that it can be used for the promotion of the Rotary in this fashion.
This Sunday you will have the chance to see this very car in the flesh in our special Rotary line up at Brooklands.
Dave\'s car is seen here below on the day launch of the RX-8 in Sheffield England on the 1st of November 2003
I saw Dave\'s 1st Gen and RX8 only the other week. It truely is a stunning example, looking forward to seeing it at Rotorstock!
nice to see Classic car magazine recognizing the first gen as a classic now ... and a late car at that. Fantastic !
Thanks to Clive for the oppertunity to provide the car for the photos.
It only took about 6 hours in the studio to get all the pictures taken, and I must say it was a very interesting process.
The photos show how hard it is to match Opal Green as the only bit of respray on the car (front and rear bumpers) stick out a bit more than they do in real daylight.
Thanks must also go to Kevin Hackett who wrote the article, for putting together such an informative text based on interviews with all those concerned.
Matt I see you have a new surname in the article!!
Anyway car will be at Brooklands tomorrow after I have spent some time today freeing off a sticking brake caliper on offside rear.
Dave
Wow! your 1st gen looks stunning (& I thought I had the best 1).
I\'d love to take a closer look one day. May we\'ll compare notes at Brooklands if I can get mine sorted in time.
Don,
Thanks, it\'s amazing how good it looks when tackled by a proffessional photographer.
Infact closer up it does look like it is 19 years old and I keep thinking about having it resprayed to hide all the annoying blemishes that I know about. However everyone normally tells me to leave it alone as their are not many still with almost a complete coat of original paint.
I must admit I can\'t wait to see your car as well as from what I hear it is an excellent job and no doubt will be turning more than a few heads.
Hopefully we can meet up at Rotorstock.
Dave
that is a nice motor. I swear i saw one just like it in cheltenham on saturday though. What colour is that??
Stu,
Opal Green. Judging by all the Gen 1\'s at Brooklands yesterday seems to be the most popular still around.
Dave
what was it ? 6 at one point :)
made them look positively common :rollin I did notice a lack of 2nd gens though it seems strange as it was always the 1st gens that seemed to be scarce at shows.
There were at least 8x 2nd gens at Brooklands, not all at the same time though. Must admit, that is one tidy 1st gen, got my vote!
Hello from the States!
Picked up a copy of "Classic Cars" magazine this weekend - only because of the 7 on the cover - its about time 7\'s were recognized.
Great looking Car Dave !
I\'m the owner of 2 7\'s (84 and 85) SE\'s (stock 13b engines) as they were called in the US. Kept in Carcoons to maintain the showroom condition.
Drive that beauty safely Dave.
John
Thanks John. Must admit car does not get used that much, spends 99% of it\'s time in the garage.
I have always liked the GSL SE, shame they did not release with 13B over here. We were stuck with 12A until Gen 2 came out.
Are there still a lot of good SA22C/FB cars around in the US?
Dave
SE\'s in excellent condition are rare. took me 10 years of on and off searching to find the 84 I have.
They tend to get beat up, raced by kids and modified. Thanks to the Fast And furious movies.
However that may be just the ticket to make the ones we have even more desirable.

i, too, am in love with your car. very nice.
sadly, the number of clean SA22 and FB33 cars are dwindling. they are fairly inexpensive here and many kids buy them and subsequently abuse and bastardize them. i see the writing on the wall so as soon as it\'s realistically possible, i plan to get a 1979 and possibly a 1985 SE to go along with my current 1984 GS.
Dave,
After reading the article about your car, in the Classic car mag, it reminded me of the fun I had years ago with an RX3, as a result of reading your article, we have purchased a 1985 MkI RX7 Elford Turbo, with full body kit in Opal Green. It has covered 75K and appears to be original, only problem is I need to replace the elect arial, but the original spoiler prevents me getting to the nut that retains it.
Will post a picture of it soon, (the car that is).
Best regards
Markp
Mark,
Hope you enjoy your car, it is good to know that the article has hopefully ensured a good long term future for another Gen 1. Hope to see the car at an event in the near future
Dave

Dont knock the 12A man. I have not been in a 13B that feels as rapid as the 12Turbo I have in my FB. I can see why Tim (RXmotors) wont drive out else. Dunno what its makin since the last op (previously 218 rwhp), but I havent found ANYTHING on the roads that can keep up, I trounced a 400bhp Cossie, an new Audi TT turbo & a hotted up excige.
And mine has all the seats & everything still in it! Who need a heavy old 13B?
