Title: Oil Temperature Gauge/Sensor
Post by: Sky on June 30, 2003, 12:37:55 PM
Heyas,

I\'ve got an aftermarket oil temperature gauge in my FD, and recently it seems to be reading well below what it used to read. In particular, it rarely budges off the very bottom (50 celsius) now and never seems to go above 70 no matter how I\'m driving. I\'m fairly sure it used to. Oil level is fine, the car\'s still running OK.

Can anyone suggest what I should do? I had a quick look for oil temp gauge how-tos (maybe the sensor\'s just come loose or something - if it\'s no longer in direct contact with whatever it\'s meant to be that\'d explain the lower readings) but I didn\'t find anything useful.

Any help appreciated,

Rick

Rick, if the sensor had come loose, you would be loosing oil.

I would hazard a guess that a connector might have worked loose. What make gauge do you have?

I guess it\'s not that then :)

The gauges I have all came with the car - the only brand name on them appears to be "omoni", and I didn\'t find anything about them when looking online.

I\'ve got a picture up here (http://www.rwalker.nildram.co.uk/pics/gauges.jpg) - that\'s taken a while back before it started reading lower, and it shows about the readings I\'d expect.

Thing is, if it was a connector loose I thought it\'d just read minimum all the time. I\'ll think about taking them out for a look sometime this week.

Cheers,

Rick

a decent oil cooler will be thermostaticly controled. im sure it is on the t2. its on the cooler itself if i remember correctly. you may find it needs changing.

Rick, Omoni are a good make gauge. Not that widely avail. over here, but used a far bit in Aus/Japan.

Might be a funny earth that is causing the problem.
