Title: wastegate problems
Post by: jamie_eaton on March 30, 2005, 06:56:56 PM
Hello guys just thought i would post this on here, im having problems with my wastegate.
We have just fitted a t88 turbo to my car and now the wastegate is not going off.
when we took the wastegate off my mate noticed that there was a rattling inside it, but it allways worked.
he took it apart and they was a nut that had come loose, so he sorted that put it back together but now it is not going off at all.
Is this maybe because it has been tightend up too much?, or not tight enough??.
Or is it maybe that i do not have an induction kit no more?? as the hks filter and pipe is now off.

I believe that nut tightens onto a spring which in turn holds back the wategate, try losening off.

Run more boost;)
What spring is in the wastegate? I would also take the wastegate off, to check it is not binding, when it was put back together.
Also how is it plumbed?

Yeah thats right, he said when he undid it a spring flew out, so when he put it back in i think he maybe tightened it up a bit too much, ill loosing it off a bit and see, cheers!!

Hi Jamie,

Check how you have it plumbed, because if you have the pipe the from your controler the wrong side of the poppet valve you will actualy hold it shut.

No matter how tight you have the spring wound in you should hear it "dump" when you take your foot off.

Hope this helps

Right we can not find the problem but i have thought of something else.
When we had my other single turbo on we had a pipe coming out of the propeller shaft with the hks induction on the end, on the pipe was a nozzle which a vacuum tube went to.
Now i have this on i have no pipe, no induction kit, just air to turbo, and the vaccum pipe is there just there open, is this causing it??

i think that pipe is from the oil feed pipes, i was told it\'s ok for these to vent to atmosphere.

I think it\'s the way you have plumed it mate, like clive has pointed out.  What boost controller you using.

Try taking some pics so we can see how it\'s fitted.

Cheers
