Title: Jap Import Dealers - Good Bad And Ugly?
Post by: not so furious on March 30, 2005, 11:03:24 AM
Hi All

Looking to buy my first FD after years of admiration and not sure which way to turn..autotrader, Ebay, for sale forum, pistonheads etc etc

I see on autotrader there are quite a few \'speciliast\' jap importers. Any one have any good or bad exeperiences to report? Home Run cars and Automarques have a few in my price range.

Feedback appreciated.

Nothing at all unless anyone can tell me otherwise. I have checked out rotary imports but they seem to be doing too well as all the uk stock is sold!

My budget is £6 ish only so I am limited in choice.

Theres always a chance you will find a decent rx7 in any of those places, i recently saw a rx on autotrader which looked very nice and had a rebuild already completed, advised a chap on here to go look at it and he bought it :)

The main thing to remember is if the previous owner says it has a rebuild ask to see the proof, ie where it was rebuilt as we all know each other on here, so you can ask on here if the cars a good one.

Ebay / Autotrader / importers are all a risk but you can find a very good one, keep looking buddy.

Your price range will also establish just what you can get too.

gsb, fantastic looking car!

My trouble is when it comes to RX7 my heart takes over. If I let my head ruled then I wouldnt even contemplate buying an RX7!

I am getting to know what to look out for though.

Got a great insurance quote - £228!

I am currently dealing with Group20 in Southampton.
They seem like a good outfit who have very reasonable terms and conditions.

I don\'t have time to go into detail right now but I will try and come back tomorrow and write more.... off to a bloody wedding shortly! What a great way to ruin a Saturday! :p

They are on Canute Road, just by Dock Gate 4 if I remember rightly.. http://www.import-japanese-cars.com/

The thing that convinced me to use them to source a car is that they will give you a full refund on the deposit paid to ship the car over here if you don\'t like the look of it when it arrives!
So when my car arrives in Southampton, I go and check it out, if I don\'t like it I get all my money back. (of course I\'ve got to find the right one and win the bid first!)

I think most of us importers do that provided the buyer is reasonable and has a good reason for not wanting the car - other than "oh, I don\'t like the colour after all!"
