Title: Intercoolers
Post by: Col on March 27, 2005, 01:53:20 PM
Just wondering about front mounted intercoolers

saw this on ebay and was wondering

                       1) if it is any good

                       2) if it is hard to fit

                       3) can you buy the hard pipes and brackets to front mount it

                         intercooler (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=72205&item=7964054468&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW)

Any thoughts would be fantastic

Cheers Col

Im in the middle of fitting one at the min and all i can say is it is a very big job if you don\'t have all the bits. There is so much more to buy other than the intercooler and then it has to be squeezed into the position it needs to go. The one i got off ebay was a modified 3 core trust intercooler and it is not an easy job to fit and it came off an rx7. Been planning all the bits since christmas. Getting hold of alloy bends is really hard work and i work for a fabrication company.

Think long and hard about it. Mines been off road for 2 weeks now and is easily going to be another 2-3 weeks if all goes to plan. Was hoping to have it done for the mascarat meet on the second monday, but it may not happen.

Yea, some of them on ebay are very very cheap.....i decided to go with the original greddy 3 row cooler in the end, just for the fact it comes with all the piping etc that will fit straight to my t78 turbo.

The one that i\'ve got has caused too many headaches. Its been modified to sit lower than the standard one, its desiged to work with a big single so the piping for the intake side is going to be very interesting. The intercooler sticks through the bottom cover about an inch and is only slightly higher than the stock bumper at the bottom. Working out all the clamps has been interesting and ive had to heavily modify the powersteering cooling line to make it fit. The ac rad will be a very big challenge to fit back in, just working the pipes out and keeping the bottom cover in one peice will be hard.

I have all the alloy bends on order and will be faricating them in the couple of weeks, then refilling the cooling system and seeing how i get on.

Not a job for the quiet type.
