Ok i have my powerfc now so im going to brave installing it myself, i only have a ported engine and cat-back so i would of thought the base maps would of been fine (?)
Anyway reading the instructions i just want to clarify 2 things.
Can i completely remove the old ecu (never looked at this so is it just the harness that connects to the stock ecu or are there other connectors which need to remain?) Or can i completely remove the stock ecu when the powerfc is fitted??
And secondly, looking at the learning cycle instruction it says after 10 mins turn on rear demistor, then after 10 more mins turn on the air con.
#1 do i turn the demistor off then the air con on, or leave them both running together??
#2 Does it matter how high the fans are running on the air con, or should i whack the temperature down and fans all the way up??
Thanks
Ryan
Also, is there any wires that need to be cut on the stock harness? just looking on rx7club.com and they mention about 4-5 wires that need cutting, is this for the american domestic market only??? My car is a Jap import
Or do these wires only need to be cut if you have removed the air con??
Base map should be fine. The base map is rich so probably best get it mapped soon to bring the fuel \'economy\' better, and for performance.
You can completely remove the stock ecu when you fit the apexi.
Dont know about the aircon as i ripped mine out at the same time i fitted the apexi.
You dont need to cut any cables, that is for the american market only.

Just fitted mine today. Pretty easy job, if a little fiddly at points, just unplug the old and plug in the new. One thing to be aware of, I had something earthed by a bolt that held in my old ECU, don\'t know if thats standard but if you have the same, make sure you re earth it. Just remember, disconnect the battery first. I whacked my aircon up to its max value. Unfortunately as mine is purely in japanese with no english at all my timings were probably way out. Still ir keeps learning all the time so I ain\'t too worried.
I have exactly the same mods as you, except decatted rather than back and just took it out for a spin. It\'s still hunting around like crazy for its idle but my god what a difference even on the base map. It is smoother and quicker and generally feels much more refined. Sounds more like a sports car than a tractor already:rollin . Got a proper map booked with pip in a couple of weeks. Can hardly even wait to be honest with you.
Excellent!!
I guess its not a big deal if i have both the rear demistor on when i turn the air con on then if it constantly learns, im going to go and put some petrol in and get it fitted, cant wait :D
Leave everything on, the reason for doing so is to allow the Apexi to adjust the electrical load correction, turn it all off and see if it idles properly. Take it out for a a drive and see if it all works. Obviously the slightest sensation of things not going to plan, stop what your doing and go and get it mapped up properly.
Hmmm well i got it fitted any everything fine, but it was taking forever to start first time, so i turned the ignition off and tried again and it fired it up, i did the learning cycle then but the revs still werent stable after half an hour and i changed various electrical functions in the car. Still a rough idle when i put the clutch to the floor when im out driving.
Anyway what i was going to ask is does this learning cycle only run once the first time you start it?? If so would me turning the ignition off after it turned over a few times and didnt start cancel it??
Would "initialise all data" in "etc" restore it to factory and therefore let me run the learning cycle again??
Thanks

mine now idles a lot higher when cold. about 2k. Then once warm its not rough at all but it will hunt like crazy for a while, before finally settling down at its correct level. Once I drive off again and then stop it will once again spend a while hunting for its idle before settling. As far as I\'m aware this is well normal. I know that its running too rich when cold but hey, no biggie. I t will be sorted when I get it mapped
