Title: air fuel gauges
Post by: brian snapes on March 21, 2005, 12:55:20 PM
I am thinking of fitting air fuel gauge, are they any good, or do they just tell you  the obvious, and look pretty. My fuel consumption seems very high abou 12-15mpg ,cars is automatic l994 fd.

They look pretty, wont give u much info besides running lean or rich. As this uses the stock narrow band O2 sensor.

If you want to monitor proper AF ratios you need a Wideband controller and sensor. You looking at £300 approx.

If I was you save the 300 quid, buy yourself a POWER FC ECU and have it tuned on the DYNO, you will get more power and gas mileage.

Amen Mr Blitzboy, a/f gauges are a waste of time unless they are reading a wideband lambda sensor. The likes of the autometer gaues u see just read the voltage from your stock o2 sensor - crap.

o.k. what is the best power fc ecu ,  and why? what else do they monitor, and how much do they cost.    thanks

There is only one POWER FC ecu and that is by APEXI, it totally replaces your stock ECU, it controls all engine parameters ie fuelling, boost, timing etc, if you buy it with the FC commander, you can monitor temps, injector duty, boost, knock levels etc

Prices are around £650 for ECU and commander.
Another £250 to have it mapped. But it will be worth as you will have a car that will have more power, smoother running, and more gas mileage when cruising.
