Motorsport news has announced this week that after her success in Formula Woman Natasha Firmin has secured a works assisted drive in the in the U.K. based Britcar Endurance Championship with an RX-8.
Ok, this is very good news!
Unfortunately, I doubt she will do well. There must be tons of male drivers out there, just crying out for help, who have loads of experience, that would do well.
Because its a woman, Mazda will get plenty of PR out of the whole thing, and thats the main deal I suppose.
Being a Rotary fan, though I would much prefer to see it winning races!!! Then again, whenever a Rotary does well, they just get banned anyway, so maybe its a good thing ! :-))
Any idea what class it\'s being entered in? Looking at the other cars running in the race there\'s no chance of it winning (even with a proven driver, much less a newbie)... Class wins are unlikely because I\'d suspect that\'ll put it in a class with much more powerful cars just because they can!
There is alot more going to happen with the RX-8\'s in motorsport. My friend Steve GUGLIELMI, who owns Guglielmi Motorsport Ltd. set up the cars for the women RX-8 racing and other things are very much moving along. I will tell you all more when i can ;)
It\'s competing in Class C of the Production S1 series. It\'s main rivals are Honda Integra Type R\'s which have, so I\'ve been told, had 2 yrs + experience in this series. The RX8 has only had 6 weeks development. Despite this, it won it\'s class in it\'s first race at Siverstone the other week. I was there (along with 4 other lucky RX8OC members) courtesy of RX8OC and Mazda UK :D
