Title: now a fully paid up member of MRC
Post by: mikeeech on March 17, 2005, 06:14:11 PM
Well... it had to happen I guess. 1200 miles after Carl rebuilt and ported my engine I stuffed it into a crash barrier on the A45 yesterday morning. A sobering lesson...

I can tell you guys however that 1200 miles of running in Carl\'s engine was a great hoot. No problems what so ever... No oil leaks, no bad starting, plenty of power (even when you don\'t need it) and a great sound to it now it\'s decatted. A testament to his engineering abilities.

It was just about ready for trip down to Carl\'s for a remap but now this visit will be more of a "what else have I broken" trip as the car now doesn\'t idle very well. (it hunts at tick over with the boost gauge blipping)

The car drives with a slight pull to one side at speed so I may have got off lightly. pics below;

I\'m not sure wheather to put it through the insurance yet!

A new nose is needed defo and I think a new ooff side wing. The bonnet is a bit out of line too...

What a bummer!:(

Don\'t touch the insurance would be my suggestion. You\'ll be paying for the repairs for years after if you tell them. If you do it outwith the insurance im sure you could pick up all parts 2nd hand for a few hundred and then spraying and fitting on top.
If your excess is a few hundred then its well worth it. Try finding out the costs and decide.

Sorry to hear about that. As said at least your ok. All i can say is if it will cost you the same to put right as your excess then fix it yourself. They are asking about incidents from the past 5 years and it can add to your premium something rotten. I had a lady run into the back of me in 2001 and i still have to declare it and it always raises the premium !!

Just make sure you haven\'t done any other damage, especially if its pulling to one side.

Yeah thought I would look for second hand parts as my excess is £350. A twisted chassis is my biggest concerns though...

Sorry to see that Mike, however could have been worse matey.

Hopefully you didn\'t bend the chassis as it looks a reasonable smack ;)
