Title: I think my ENGINES JUST BLOWN
Post by: p.robby on March 17, 2005, 01:27:59 PM
HI, gutted was driving the rex when it started to loose power,  the revs went up and down (clutch in)  lots of popping from the exhast then a massive pop/flame (mate was behind) and the engine lost all power then died.   typical was right on a roundabout at the time!!! The car will turn over but will not start , its in a local garage so will know for def by the end of the day.

Would like to know what signs to look for with a blown engine? And how much am i looking at for a new engine fitted  (wgt)

gutted paul

I\'m not really sure what happens when a tip lets go, but would suggest getting a compression check as a way to tell if it\'s a tip or not.

Got mine done about 14 months ago by RX Motors, think it worked out at around £2,500 for the job.

That\'s a right pain!  Still, you have an excuse to get some porting done now!  Costs for rebuilds from companies vary from approx £2500 (RXHeaven) up to approx £4200 (Rotechnics), but the parts used differ from place to place.  Some use official mazda rotor housings, most use third party gear.  A compression test is a good idea, but wont confirm the extent of the damage - you\'ll have to crack her open for that I\'m afraid.

Cheers.

Unusual circumstances for an engine to blow, sounds like it might be something else to me.

Hopefully so!

The easy way to check is to watch your vacumn/ pressure gauge. One or more tips gone will cause the needle to flutter.

if you\'ve got relay and home start  just call the AA or RAC and tell them where you want it taking. They took mine from Leeds to Northwich a couple of weeks back.

If you don\'t have it. Get it now, deny being in any kind of trouble and then phone them on the 4th of April.
