If you had leaks before and now you\'ve fixed \'em, all your idle control stuff will need readjusting cos it\'s got used to managing the leaks!

Idle speed adjustment:
bring engine up to normal operating temperature
connect TEN and GND on diagnostic connector (paper clip works well)
make sure the wax rod operated lever completely separates from the fast idle cam
adjust idle speed to approx. 725 rpm by turning the idle speed adjusting screw located UNDER the throttle body between the two 10mm cap nuts that attach the charge air pipe to the throttle body
if the idle speed is too high with the adjusting screw fully screwed in (clockwise),    unlock and turn (counterclockwise) the primary throttle stop screw to give you more    adjusting range for the screw under the throttle body.
while adjusting idle make sure the fans are not running
remove the TEN-GND jumper and verify that the ISC system takes the rpm up to approx. 850

How did you get the intake elbow so clean & shiny?

Cheers

jon   : i painted the intake pipe with an alluminium affect paint as it was well manky

gavin  : i used 4mm silicone hose i didnt use any clips either and they seem to be holding fine but its early days yet :)
and the job took me a day to finish but my ppes were all wrong to start with so i ripped them all out and did them one by one from the vac hose diagram

Post by: Eddie on March 16, 2005, 07:06:52 PM
I have just bought these silicone pipes from Ebay I think its a
good price. 17.99 including postage

10 FEET OF 4MM
4 FEET OF 6MM
2 FEET OF 10MM

marshall2702 can you advise please, I thought other diamiters of pipes were needed, I am going to try and do any pipes that can be replaced.

I am however going to use cable ties on my hoses just in case. You can get colour coded ties from B+Q will cable ties be Okay, does anyone know?

I am going to tackle mine shortly:(

just out of interest when i do the rats nest do i need any new gaskets for the plenum?

According to Mazda you do need new gaskets.

However..

The Upper to Lower intake manifold gasket can take about 6 removals before it needs replacing according to WGT.  You can remove the throttle body with the UIM so no need to split that gasket.  The \'O\' ring from the throttle body to the intake elbow can take loads of removals, i have split this section 30+ times with no leakage.

hope that helps.
