hi guys and galls, neebie here i have a lil bit of an odd question to as,if someone would be so kind to give me the rough size of a 13b engine(including the turbos manifolds ect) or the width between the struts.
cheers for reading
chris:wave
what car you planning dropping it into ?
now what makes u think that:rollin. i\'m thinking on droping it into a mk2 crx and converting it to rwd, tho i cant seem to make up my mind as to what set up to go for( i\'m considering a scooby engine and its 4wd set up ) its down to wot comes along 1st and wots gonna fit.
a bit mad i know but why not.
cheers chris
the block is quite small but once you\'ve bolted everything on it probably doubles in size , I\'ll measure it later if I get time , problem you might have is getting the gear box to fit
Obviouse question , why not just but an FD , much better looking than a CRX anyway , buy the time you\'ve sourced all the bits and messed about fabricating brackets and mountings you\'ll probably have spent more than an FD will cost
Each to there own though and if you do it you\'ll have a unique motor
I dont know what weight the 13b engine is but a subaru flat4 weighs a lot, I looked into putting one in an imp instead of an alfa boxer. You\'ll probably find what ever you do will need quita a lot of work to make it handle as the front /rear balance will be all changed.
Tintin if u could do that i would owe ya beer, the front rear ballence isnt the best in a crx,it gets a lil twitchy on heavy braking and lift off over steer so the extra weight at the back would be nice.
thats probbly true that it would end up costing more, but i like my crx and it would be a fun drift car and would suprice a few people, and hopefully i can find a damaged/writen off FD that i can take bits and pieces of.
To get the gear box to fit its probbly gonna need the center tunnel cutting, as well as the fuel tank been relocated and new rear suspension mounting points and maybe a lil work to the bulckhead depending on how far back i can slot the engine(hopefully as close as safely pos without createing a fire risk) which would help the ballance problem. And of course anything else that comes up.
From what i\'ve read i\'ll probbly need a new ecu since i\'ll be changeing the exhaust system and i dont wish to have any nasty boost spikes and it should free up some more power and reduce spoole up time, oh and lets me turn the boost up a lil bit more.
cheers chris
sorry mate forgot to do it this afternoon , so I\'ve just been out for a quick measure now , although it was dark so I can\'t be precise on these measurements
width is about 28"
length was about 30" , that was from bulkhead to the front of the intercooler , radiator not included
depth was about 12" so you shouldn\'t strugggle there
from memory the gearbox is about 24" , but I could be well out on this
Best bet would be to have a real good look under a bonnet or better still speak to one of the specalists they good probably tell you more accurate measurements and tell you what you could loose
thats great, give me an idea, and sounds like the 13b would be much better than the scoobys engine. it would be tight between the struts, so that means they may need work,on the weight distribution side of things looks gd cos the block can be set far back as i want, i dunno about the gearbox till i get one put up to the car.
chris
good luck with the project , keep us all posted as to how your getting on
Oooooh thats gonna be good :) I wanted a Gen 2 CRX only a while back and wanted to put one of the Renesis engines in the back all nice and shiney with a polycarb cover over mmmmm :D :D :D
thanks guys :D :bandit and it should be very intersting, glad this forum is much nicer than scooby net.
just need to sort out a car to get the bits from and start planning.
am i right about needing a new ecu or is the std gonna put up with a new exhaust and a lil turning up on the boost?
chris
whats the plan for the front suspension ? IIRC the crx has the steering rack on the bulkhead like most FWD cars, that puts a rwd gearbox right in the way of the rack.
I\'ve had the same thoughts about converting my 323 rally car using the 4x4 rear end and run into the same problems with the rack.
Would have thought you\'d be looking at an ECU to be honest, unless you plan on keeping a lot of the standard FD intake and exhaust stuff.
Yep like MikeLMR said , you\'d better change the ECU , Apexi FC is the one of choice round here
I take it the scooby lot aren\'t much help ?
the scooby guys wasn\'t much helps plus a few stupied comments...
the steering rack is gonna need a bit of work but i\'m looking into a modifided s2000 rack, other wise i\'m gonna have to custom or bodge something, atleast its not power steering which makes things simpler.
thats what i had planned to use since the std exhaust seems to be restrictive and i dowt the std airbox would fit properly.

Must be something to do with scobbies , our scooby si is a bit like that :rollin
yeah but i\'m better looking :p wibble wibble......
Does sound interesting & i imagine if the width of the rotary engine maybe a slight issue you\'d of been right royally fooked with the boxer scooby engine......:rollin
Anyway all sounds very interesting so i\'l disengage gob shyet mode & as above look forward to you\'re developement....
Si
PS have you tried ringing a few of the specialists i\'m sure many will be able to help you no end, just dont be put off the 13B by Tim @ RXmotors ;) :rollin lol he has a ponchont for the 12a rotors but fear not he is good for all things rotor based & he\'s a bit mental too you should get on great :wave lol
