Title: Fitting a replacement CAT pipe
Post by: Steve Burnett on March 10, 2005, 10:49:47 PM
Can someone please tell me what to look out for when replaceing the midpipe CAT with a CAT replacement midpipe? Sensors etc???
I have removed the back box no problem and was wondering about the CAT removal. Is there any gaskets in the downpipe to midpipe???

Please help, Id like to do it this weekend.

Hi steve, there is a cat heat sensor, once you remove it, make sure you insulate it with electrical tape and fix it to the underside. If you dont it could short against the body and cause the heat light to come on, if you ar efitting the apexi this now becomes the knock warning light...

If you cannot get gaskets then a good smear of gun gum will do the job fine, i have had gun gum on mine since the rebuild with no leaks..

The other thing to look out for is bloody tight rusty bolts! :p

Ross was kind enough to lend me a CAT replacement pipe as a favour.
The pipe is just being fitted on a temp basis, to see if it gets rid of my flashing heat light. I don\'t have a PFC so it won\'t be on long.
I\'ll get it fitted next week, tomorrow im going snowboarding!!

No need to  disconect the Air pump.  The car will run smoother with it connected (fuel mixture at idle is affected).  Just let the pipe that went to the cat vent off under the car.  There is only fresh air coming from it anyway...
