Title: Boost Problems
Post by: allstaruk on March 10, 2005, 02:30:15 PM
Hi

I fitted a boost gauge about a day ago after thinking that I had a few boost problems, and it confirmed my suspision. I have had a quick look at the pipes and all seem ok and well attached so I am now at a loss. What do I look at next.

The boost patten is 0.8-Slight Dip-0.5 so as far as I am aware when it hits 4500k the boost is dropping to 0.5. I feel a slight dip in power on the transition point.

I really am not sure where to start I am quite confident and can cope with most mechanics but not sure what I shold be looking for.

Any help would be good

Alan

ok from what I can make of your problem you should get a slight dip in boost at about 4500- then a gain in boost as the secondary turbo comes online( about 4800) then it should increase back to 0.8 bar ( 10psi) from there...

if you get a dip at 4500 and then nothing back up the way then  the secondary turbo aint spooling up. this could be due to a pipe off or a blown turbo ( but you would know about that )

check all the pipes from the turbos and the vacuum piped fust behind/underneath the front strut brace if you have one fitted
its a little black box about 6 inches by 2 inches with two pipes in from the right and out from the other side... I had a similar thing and all it was was a pipe had come off here... it might be something in the rats nest or sollenoid or actuator or switch thing but pipes are cheaper so check them first...

good luck

The pipe\'s seem ok, I have had fiddle and they seem ok but i am gonna take them off and have a proper look in the daylight.

I have had one of the pipe\'s from the little black box pop of before and it doesn\'t feel like that,  when that pipe is off I don\'t feel the dip in power that is happening at the moment.
