Title: Stiff knob in the morning,
Post by: ro284 on March 04, 2005, 08:06:53 PM
I think it\'s probably just the cold weather, but the gearchange is a bit stiff first thing in the morning, but it does get easier when the engine has warmed up, my question is would it be a good move to put Redline in my box? and is Redline an additive or a complete change/fill up? cheers in advance for any advice,
Bob

That\'s a feature, not a bug, and it reminds you not to muller it when cold!

(Also it\'s because the oil needs to be pretty substantial to handle the loads when you\'re in  5th at mega temperatures and speeds.)

Redline make tranny oils so it\'s a complete change. If you\'ve never changed the transmission oil it\'s probably worth doing unless you have a 1999 car, really, oil\'s probably full of bits of synchromesh!

Apparently Mazda trannies have brass cones so you can\'t use any old gearbox lube, because those with sulphur in will dissolve things... so no Mobil in particular!

Like you say Redline\'s 75w90 GL4 is OK and sold by pretty much everyone (even Demon Tweeks)

(I will be doing it to the 8, hopefully next week)
