Title: Dreaded Rust - Prevention is better than the cure!
Post by: dazsir on March 04, 2005, 07:05:26 PM
:) Hi guys me again, where on the Gen 1 are the major rust problems located, my car has had some welding to rectify thinning metal under the car beneath where the seat belts are strapped to the chassis? just would like to know where to look.

P.s. my car is the one that was on ebay (Blue one, someone recommended) that was for sale in Hampshire.  Sorry if I beat anyone to it.

Just doing some work on it, bought a full set of shocks.  Want some racing beat springs....

Want to keep this old girl running.

main areas are the reinforcing plates in the rear inner wheel arches where the suspension mounts. But just about everywhere else rusts too.

some of the worst areas though

boot aperature around the rear hatch drains especially
sunroof panel and the roof around it
Sills, inner and outer
chassis rails where they meet the bulkhead and where the steering gear bolts on.
Bonnets are also prone to rot.
strips of metal that hold the door window trims

P.S if you find somewhere that does RB springs I wouldn\'t mind a set myself.

Hi thanks for the info!

Rotechniks advertise that they stock racing beat products, if you then click on the "rotary" section they are advertised as a current product, I am going to ring up and order some next week, so I will let you know how I get on!
They lower by an inch.

When you say the rear reinforcing plates, do you mean underneath the plastic covers inside the car?  Or with the wheel off and the back of the wheel arch, which has a thin layer of sealant on?

Your reply would be gratefully received....:(

Yes I do, what you charge for the following:

Fuel sender unit from the tank, or if reasonable the whole tank?

Plastic surrounds for the door latches (interior trim, those little things that are on the door cards.

Any elford turbo body parts, such as front skirt and side skirts.

If you want to let me know, independant of this, email

Sorry - means Personal Message.

If you click on \'\'user cp\'\' (means contol panel) the left most of the blue buttons on the right above the text boxes, you will see the pm section which will have a new message from me about the elford kit.
