Title: Cooling fan check?
Post by: andrewrx7 on March 04, 2005, 01:14:44 PM
Is there any way on tricking the fans into coming on to check that they work?

Can honestly say, that in the time I\'ve had the car, I haven\'t heard the coolings fans start up. Was wandering if there was a way to trick the ecu into thinking the car was hot and so start the fans?

The car is a later spec 7, which supposedly has a bigger rad for improved cooling (?). When I park up in the garage, there is alot of heat coming off of it, exp with the bonnet up (yes, I do drive it slowly to cool down before sticking it into the garage). I guess it could be more efficient at cooling, and simply hasn\'t reached the trigger point, but would like to test it anyway!

Cheers!

er dunno about tricks but mine will always come on if you\'ve been for a drive (water temps ~85+ under normal conditions) then turn off engine but leave ignition on after a couple of minutes of no air flow & heat soak water temps go well over 90 & usually over 100 before the fans start to bring the reading down. Basically go for reasonable drive turn off car for say 1 minute then turn ignition but not start engine & i imagine the fans should kick in.....at least as a theory of mine but not fool proof i guess presuming you dont have a proper read out of water temp?
